Will we get an idea of next weeks opening line up? Subject to holidays and injuries. Hopefully no more trialists.

Andy Peaks has a decent record of finding good players late in the pre-season period, perhaps when they can't sort anything out at a higher level. Two that spring to mind are Claudio Hoban and Ross Oulton, both of whom seemed to appear just before the start of the season.

It was difficult to get too many clues about how we might perform this season from today's game. An approach with the three centre backs with Brown and Reynolds as wing backs might be employed, but I don't have much idea beyond that. The best midfielder on the pitch for much of the game was a Diamonds old boy, and the player that lit up things in the second half - Ben Acquaye - was also one of the most frustrating. His performance reminded me of Tyrone Berry lighting up the pre-season against Notts Forest back in the RDFC days - let's hope he can deliver when he gets his chance in the first team.

Everybody present today except Mcdonald, Curtis Farrell and Johnson.? Hopefully all injuries now cleared up and hols over for key players. What positions did the trialists take. Is James Hall still with us?

James Hall has signed for Godmanchester.

Think thiers a few players missing next weeks 1st league game! Holidays/weddings which you get at this level of football.

I thought we played quite well apart from a 20 minute spell in the 1st half after Dav scored. Slinn looks comfortable and did really well but needs a bit more muscle. Ben in centre midfield was great and Double barrelled Nat did well again. No sign of Faz yesterday but could be working or something. I didn't see anything in any triallists to impress me.
We did get some teriffic crosses into the 6 yard box but no one there to finish them. Should have been 5 - 3 to us but a good win. I'd guess starting formation will be with wing backs, but we have the players for 4-4-2.
I don't know why, and I hope I'm wrong, but I get a nasty feeling we might struggle this season.
( Hopefully that's quashed that from happening 😁😁)

I think that’s the general view, but I did also think that last season and it didn’t turn out that way.

I genuinely believe we will have one of the best defences in the league, but we haven’t done anywhere near enough to strengthen the other end of the pitch from what I’ve seen so far. I’m hoping, and I don’t think it’s unrealistic, that Acquaye and Johnson can make a really big contribution for us this year. I’d also be tempted to play Johnson alongside Lorraine as an out and out striker to give us the pace we’re badly lacking in that area.

What I have learned down the years is that pre-season means nothing. I once wrote off Nic Evangelinos after pre-season and look how that turned out.
They say we've lost our money we're not famous anymore.....

I think we will experience a lot of drawn games just like last season and narrow wins and defeats in equal measure. We need some luck of the draw in the FA Cup, a couple of home games early on would be welcome. As always a proven goalscorer is a must and I don't think our current squad has that. It would be great if Tom were to get to 100 ASAP and Ryan Dove continue his goalscoring at this level. I am not expecting too much from Mcdonald or Bowen.
