Doubt many of us expected any points from today. St Ives are clearly going to be at the other end of the table to us this season. However timing is everything and we're now 6 games without a win.
With four relegation spots this season, our goal is already crystal clear.
Frightening our goal has been defined by our own results so soon in the season.

Lose that one and he is under real pressure. To change him at thus stage may seem crazy, but like some have already pointed out, he's decided to build a side on youngsters and at the moment the table doesn't lie. I think we're in for a season of a relegation dog scrap at best and if the board are happy with that then so be it. But im sure the amount of fans walking through the gates for home games will tell differentdiamondsteve wrote: Mon Aug 29, 2022 6:22 pmThe table doesn’t lie . I think most teams would accept ugly route 1 football to get them points and up the table.rdusher wrote: Mon Aug 29, 2022 5:49 pm This result look much worse on the face of it then the 90 minutes actually represented.
For sure, a devastating result, but over he course of the game we were by far the best footballing side. We kept the ball on the deck, played some great stuff, Jesse was immense I. The middle and Jensen put in a hell of a shift.
The disallowed goal was a sucker punch and the one that counted we took really well. I'll avoid the cliche of "trust the process" but this is the best football I've seen a diamonds team play I'm a long time.
Of course we can't let the results co to use like this and experience is a must, but it's not a goalscorer we need. Today we did more than enough going forward to secure the win, but all three goals were out own fault. We absolutely gave the game away today and that's the real concern. We need to toughen up at the back
Worried about playing step 5 side Enfield , no
way burg can carry on if we don’t beat them

Speaking as someone who now classes them self as a part time supporter, and is more of a follower from a distance these days, if I'm being brutally honest it's becoming more of a struggle to motivate myself to make games that normally I'd be really up for.TheIncognitoKid wrote: Mon Aug 29, 2022 7:49 pm I think we're in for a season of a relegation dog scrap at best and if the board are happy with that then so be it. Not sure how other "semi regular" supporters are feeling, but I'd guess given Saturday's attendance a few may also being staying away.
When Burgess was appointed I was fully behind it, and I still want him to succeed at the club and turn it around! However we simply HAVE to win on Saturday. Not only for the teams confidence but for fan engagement. The idea of being out the FA Cup in September and sitting bottom of the league having not scored more than 1 goal in any of our game is a prospect that will have even the most hardcore fan wanting to attend games, purely on a footballing entertainment basis.
You can trace this slump in the clubs fortune back a little while now sadly though. To miss out on the play offs last season in such woeful fashion. Then a summer of very little excitment surrounding potential signings, followed by a squad of U21/3s being assembled to compete in a tough league and being constantly told in post match interviews "we're not far off, we're nearly there".
It seem those that have attended games have almost all said we've player well in patches but lack a goal scorer. Or we've played well in patches but lack concentration at the back etc. I'd say that is evidence we aren't "nearly there" and infact we are severely lacking in key departments.
Look I hope we do bring in some experience at both ends of the fields and I'm proven wrong. I want Burgess bring some good times back to the club, but even the most hardy support would struggle to continue to back any management if 10 games in we are still sitting bottom of the league.
Lets hope this post is entirely worthless in a few weeks time and we are looking up not down the table and have the prospect of a away day at a "big" side in the FA Cup to look forward to.

Thought we really could’ve come away with something today going into HT. Jenson’s goal unfairly ruled out as a foul… Tee looked sharp again and was the catalyst for most attacking plays.
Second half was a carbon copy of most of the season so far sadly. We have a massive problem in the spine of the team. Hicks poor again. And as one of the few experienced players in the team I’m a bit fed up of him constantly moaning at every player for every single mistake that’s made. Ironically he was the worst player in the team today and made the most mistakes! No leadership or motivation from our captain, probably not captain material for me personally. We’re in desperate need of a proper box to box midfielder to work with Akubuine and/or Worsfold-Gregg. Obviously need a striker too, although I thought Jenson played really well today. We fix these 2 problems in the spine of the team and the results will come our way, we have plenty of talent on either flank in our lineup.

I wasn't there today so cannot comment on performance. I also don't look at league tables until 10 games have gone. Having said all that, we desperately need another striker and Sunday's FA Cup game is now a must win.
Also, can we please move away from this continual 'inexperienced' team reference. Yes we have some young players but that doesn't mean that they are all 'inexperienced'! We arguably have the best GK in the league, Paddy is largely considered to be a Step 2 player. Captain Hicks is in his 30's. Evan maybe early 20's but is on a contract and has a year at Canvey behind him. The Viking is 26 while Jesse, Furlong and Hughes are not new to this level. Connor Tee has already played at Step 2 level. That just leaves 3 or 4 spots for 'inexperienced' players and I would argue that most other sides at our level are no different.
also, i love to see good football played on the deck but sadly this rarely gets you out of trouble at this level. As has been previously said, route 1 football merged with good football can often get you results.

So it’s got to fall on bad management & coaching. Why did Nathan leave again? I see he scored a great free kick again last weekend. The pressman wrote: Mon Aug 29, 2022 9:09 pm I wasn't there today so cannot comment on performance. On separate note Hednesford sacked their management on Saturday Lita taking over . They are one place above us.

We absolutely all want Andy to succeed, I didn’t go today but listening in, I felt like a draw was a result we can build on but a defeat puts us back.
I was thinking how similar this might be to st Ives, last season their manager was struggling to get to terms with playing football rather than his usual style on the new 3G so they brought Mike Ford in and they survived and actually now with Ricky the sole manager this season they have prospered. Maybe there is someone who could join the management team who has been at this level either as a manager or coach who has contacts that can help blend what Burge is undoubtedly bringing to the club alongside how step 3 football works.
It seems the story of the season that we can score 1 goal but if the opposition score two we’re not going to score 2 or 3.
I really hope he can do it but I really fear next Sunday, a team 15 unbeaten against a very fragile confidence that we have. I just hope we get a couple of men in beforehand

Burge just seems so dejected at the moment. I also feel as though he's lacking confidence as well. Maybe that's just the interviews, but if he's like that in the dressing room that can't be good. I think once they get a win or two they will kick on and be fine, it sounds like they are close and just need that confidence and belief in how Burge wants them to play to go on with the job.
If the board do need to make a call in regards to the manager's position, we will need to consider the costs of paying out his contract and bringing someone else in. We could be in an even worse position if a new manager then didn't save the club from relegation.

Question for Diamond Steve, who is this Nathan you refer to? I don't think the board would sack Burgess, it would be a case of him resigning or leaving by mutual consent. It has been pointed out elsewhere that Nabil Sharif (4 goals already this season) and Kaziboni were only subs yesterday. Both or either could make a difference.
