Ricky330 wrote: Tue May 27, 2025 9:53 am Definitely a concern. Can only speculate that no sponsor= significant budget reduction, & players & MH have had/feel better offer is out there.
With no sponsor would we even be able to compete at step 4??
Dont want to end up like Walsall Wood(I know they overspent, but we could run out of capital for different reasons) & be unable to complete season
Was going to let this news 'air' but think it's really important I jump in to shut stuff like this down as I've also been approached directly by other supporters with similar concerns.

The club isn't under any threat. There is no budget reduction.

I'm not aware of a single player that has left us to date that has left us because of a better offer in terms of monetary value. In many of these cases we made no offer to them, simple as that.
Sorry mate but that CAN'T be correct let me explain;-

The club IS under threat and there will be a budget reduction and the way to avoid it is to buy your season tickets now and have extra goes in the monthly build the budget raffle :cheesy:

Simples
Oh yeah. And that. :cheesy:

I must admit it was a shock but whilst we won’t be privy to discussions held we must support the elected board in their job. Let’s see how this pans out and come August we can then make a more informed opinion. Thought Michael did very well but would it have been a surprise if he had gone during that awful run we had mid season. Different opinions, different visions, who knows. I mean it could actually turn out positively for all involved, it does happen sometimes.

Alex can you give us an update on the major sponsor?

If talks are still going on ,and the budget as you say isn’t being lowered then all this is just a simple management change, and we can all go back to enjoying the break & positive news like always in June-July .

Nothing agreed as yet and nothing close either really. Been a constant stream of leads throughout the summer. I'd say we have two that are currently warm leads but at the moment there's no information to disclose. It's not really close to that stage.

Clearly we need to find a main sponsor, however the commercial budget for the season is an overall budget. So if we over-achieve in other areas, it leaves us less reliant on the golden egg. The wider commercial group have, at the time of writing, contacted 633 businesses this summer and that work continues. That team has been superb, in truth.

The playing budget hasn't been lowered. That's a fact. If we don't find a main sponsor then we will do what we've done over the course of the last 3 years - we'll figure it out.

Not about to attack the board like others, we can't go back to this us vs them mentality like a few years ago, we all love the club and want the club to succeed and I applaud Raz and others for giving up their time for the club.

But I am surprised and disappointed at the news, could the season just gone have gone better? Yes, of course. And no of course we want higher than mid table step 4, but the ship was steadied after two turbulent seasons and MH demonstrated his abilities with the miraculous turnaround and excellent recruitment the season before.

If this is a case of someone with a higher calibre, experience and better contacts waiting in the wings then fair enough, but I don't personally think he was doing a bad job for sure and was keen to see him build for another season.

It is what it is and looking forward to seeing who we appoint, hope we can hold on to at least one or two like Adegbola, Ch Green, but fully expecting to see a largely changed team come August. Just hope we can get someone in within the fortnight ideally as other teams around us are already snapping up players.

"Shut stuff like this down"??
Merely expressing a concern/opinion. Surely that's what a forum is for
But your comments served no purpose other than to fan flames. Nobody is saying you can't discuss things. But equally I have the right to respond if what's being said is incorrect and potentially damaging.

Important, I thought, to stop speculation of that nature. If the club had a significant financial issue then we would be honest about it.
If im fanning the flames, then unfortunately, there's no smoke without fire😔
As I said, my comment was a concern/opinion
Time will tell I suppose

My jumping to conclusions is that someone may have applied for the wrong job, but that may be BS .

That's the state of football at this level nowadays I'm afraid, unless you have a big money backer who can persuade managers and players to stay for the cash rather than the club.

Step 4 is horrible for this, especially where we are situated with umpteen clubs within an hours drive.

Obviously disappointed by the news, I will always be grateful for him steadying the ship after the disaster of Burgess and Nunn, but I’m hoping we’ll get an explanation for the reasons why, I’m sure it won’t be anything untoward.

Purely speculation on my part, but maybe it was partly down to lack of contacts on Michael’s side. Again, purely speculation on my part, but I’d suspect most of the players we’ve had over the last couple years have been through contacts Tom Lorraine & Dan Porter have had, maybe Michael couldn’t find another assistant of similar standing.
