The Pitch

We have given the pitch a very good and long roll this morning/afternoon. It looks a lot better and we have sanded down the touch lines where the linesman run, so hopefully that wont look to bad during games from now on.

I didnt think it cut up as bad as maybe it was expected, so with no rain forcast it should all be ok for your two games next week.

Pitch is being verti-drained monday during the day which will help the pitch even more, so hopefully we can get the pitch back on track.

I was pleased that last Tuesday's referee applied common sense and got the linos to run the opposite half.
Why more refs don't do that because the state of those lines in the past have forced the linos to run on the inside of the pitch. :evil:

Problem is Trek, most refs when they first start their careers in football start on one diagonal and get so used to that particular diagonal that they are afraid to try to change but, I agree it would be a good idea to try to get them to change for the benefit of particularly the smaller grounds. As a ex ref I used to change my diagonal quite often and I soon got used to it.

From 2007-08 the left-wing diagonal has been mandatory in English professional football although some referees at lower levels still use the opposite approach.

I still think common sense should prevail to allow the old, slow and usually overweight linos that I have seen this season a chance to keep up with play. ;)

Mind you, last Tuesday's referee appeared to be no stranger to the sweet trolley.

Yeah, no big errors at all, I thought he was a bit lenient with the Spencer players, I think a couple of yellows should perhaps have been handed out, but other than that a good performance for this level.

The refs at this level seem a lot less fussy than at higher levels. We see far fewer stoppages / less whistle, and they don't seem keen to dish out cards. Providing they treat both sides the same, and don't let the really bad challenges go unpunished, I find it preferable to performances of some of the pedantic whistle-happy attention seekers seen at a higher level.
