Excluding their play-off games Chorley averaged 755 last season. We could do that as well if we were fighting for a play-off place like they were. They also had a 3,223 gate against Chester that significantly boosted that figure.

You can look at a club like Chorley FC who attract crowds between 1000 - 3000 a home game and they are in the Evo-Stick league and have not had much success (history wise) a RDFC phoenix club has no chance with a top following of a couple of hundred.
Please people wake up
My heart is with RDFC but I will not be following a phoenix club
Why would you not follow a pheonix club?
I thought exactly the same question as to why this poster won't continue..
On the other hand as mentioned earlier in the thread, I've spoken to dad and he said he will support a Pheonix club if it is run correctly. So that's gaining 1 more than R&D had..ish/in a way. haha

If the first team had been relegated on merit to the UCL would you be so disloyal as to stop supporting?
No we won't have the massive gates and near garunteed immediate success that other pheonix sides have had, but playing in a ground that we can run from sustainably there is no reason why the club cannot be built up over time as a real community club.
In the UCL we could get from 500-1000 fans. It would make us one of the bigger sides able to have one of the better budgets in the league, to push for the top end of the table and success. Heck these gates would still put us in a reasonable position in the BSN/BSS should we get there. Price it right and it could be higher. We can really build a club with a long term future and community involvment.
No you are not garunteed success from large crowds, but Chorley will get promoted next season, after losing out to Chester this season. The fact they are at that level with those crowds means nothing. They haven't been there with those crowds for years (as best as I can tell anyway).
I think you may get crowds to start with around 500 after a season you will be pushing hard to get 300.
I would follow RDFC if they had got relegated as they are still RDFC, but a phoenix club is not RDFC, it is not the club ive been following for the past 20 years and the past 11 years been travelling from the Bolton area to watch RDFC every week home and all north west away games
When they die they die end of.
I will now follow my second club (which has history to me) Bolton Wanderers and wish you all good luck with your phoenix club and hope it lasts
PS Chorley did get promoted this season through the play-offs

If we get over 500 for our first game I'd be amazed to be honest. I would think it would be around the 200-300 mark.

Maybe, maybe not, it depends what happens in the season and how long the "feel good" factor lasts. I suppose it also depends where the club is playing, how much they are charging and how good the standard of football and entertainment on offer are. Remember this won't be at the same prices.
It's near enough the continuation of the club after it goes pop. If you want to distance yourself then it's a choice I suppose. But, for me at least, a club is more than a registered trademark or name with the league. It's about identity, and part of that identity is the community that goes with it. The community will not only be the same, but be in charge! And this time it won't be with a club running at a loss, it will be with a clean slate.
As for what we would get for the first game, I think 500 would be realistically achievable if we were to start this season, but to start in 2012/13 the club may have lost momentum, it's really hard to say.

A phoenix club would be the natural successor and embody the heart and soul of RDFC through the fans. I only have one club, so I will not be falling back on a second team. I guess the other phoenix clubs are considered alien to the clubs they succeeded as well.
Who is to say what will happen? A club that belongs to the fans, is run the right way, with the interest of the community and local football as a concern can go a long way. Even gates of 300 are still a good start, there is room to grow and build.

EDIT: We've got a long way to go, but it can be done. Keep the faith, help out and we WILL build something that we will all be proud of as a fanbase and as a community.

Great post, the Phoenix club will be what we make of it, as sad as it sounds we have to forget about the club we just lost, it was taken over and abused after Max had to leave.
We have a fantastic opportunity here to produce a real fans club, with the support already shown. As long as the interest can be maintained, then the launch should provide enough publicity to make sure that the crowds are above 500.
I also believe that our away support will intimidate other clubs in the league we start off in, if we can get 1-200 people travelling all over the country, then we should be able to get more to "pop" up the road.

I want to see Rushden & Diamonds in its current guise survive.
That said, call me optimistic, but i'm confident that attendances for a phoenix club will exceed those that have been suggested on this forum, certainly the first game.
Of course there is the year gap which is hugely frustrating as people will go off and watch other clubs, but there are LOADS of ex RDFC fans that feel disalluisioned and alienated by the current and past owners of the football club. Not to mention that this club has been in terminal decline since 2004.
People will watch a winning team, whether it be in the UCL or the Zamaretto, people WILL come. I'm certain that a club owned by fans with aspirations of getting back to where it belongs will draw in fans, both RDFC, ex-RDFC, or totally unrelated to RDFC.

the thing i love about the phoenix club is that its separating the die hard supporters from the plastic. I'd rather be surrounded by 200 die hard fans willing a team on than 800 plastic moaning and groaning :-)

Totally agree, although I'll make an exception in Pigman's case
