Having watched Gary's footage, I was about to make a similar comment, but to add to it, it seems to me that the referee does us three favours:

1) he gets in the way of the defender, as you say, but also

2) he gets out of the way of the shot very nimbly (it appeared to miss the back of his leg by millimetres);

3) most important of all, I think he unsights the goalie - who doesn't appear to react until after the ball has passed the referee.

So all in all, thanks very much Mr Referee!

How's about playing that commentary just before the K*ttering game over the PA ?

That was almost as good as the commentary on the Norway v. England match all those years ago. ;)
