Well obviously general support was almost continually falling during the conference/BSP years but I do kind of agree, I was always disappointed that we never really took more than 200/250 to places like Cambridge, Histon or Stevenage in the post-FL days, always thought we could have had a few more at the relatively local places, though there were a few good away supports, like taking nearly 500 to St Albans, 300+ for the SS final at Aldershot and of course 1100 (more than some of our home attendances that season!) for the playoff at Oxford so it wasn't all bad.BartonRaz wrote:I'm sure someone will produce some stats to disprove this but I always used to think how poorly supported we were away from home, particularly towards the end when the home support tailed off. Certainly compared with the other sides that had fallen from the football league we were no way near.
It was always the same old faces. I vividly remember being stood with about 15 others away at Eastwood in what turned out to be one of the most entertaining Diamonds games in years. Not exactly a massive hike. Even Histon away near the end I don't think we took much more than 100.
Taking into account the wave of optimism and the close proximity of the clubs id like to think we could take 250+ to Wootton but id be surprised if it happens.
Long Buckby certainly increased admission prices for their match against King's Lynn last April on the basis that they needed to employ stewards to deal with the anticipated large travelling support.Duke of Wimbourne wrote:I don't think that clubs can alter their prices once they are set with the league? :?
I don't think it will happen this weekend anyway, but it was certainly the case that Long Buckby inflated their prices by £2 per head when Kings Lynn visited them last season. They used the theory it was for additional stewarding - which seemed to consist of giving a few fans orange jackets. They also introduced a car parking charge, but they did open up part of the cricket field for that.Duke of Wimbourne wrote:I don't think that clubs can alter their prices once they are set with the league? :?
