Three of those subs, Foster, Ghavami and Crow made less than 5 appearances for the U18's last season.

Full time score 3-0. Disappointing but would have been of immense value, I guess, to Starms and Peaksie to run the rule over our squad fringe players and other youngsters from the U18 set up to see if they can handle the step up to senior football.
I suspect 1874 might have fielded their strongest team today.

Will be very interesting to see the starting line up for next Wednesday's fixture at Stamford.

Occasion? A pre season friendly against a step 6 side!
Would have hoped that side would be competitive, but as it is I'm sure this will be another useful exercise as we move towards the new season, that's entirely the purpose of pre season.

Yeah I'd say it was a bit of an occasion, for a pre season game anyway, two very new fan owned clubs playing each other for the supporters' direct shield, shame it got such a low turnout from both sides because of the venue though.

I did hear a whisper that we were taking a 'younger squad' today and this was backed up by the fact that there were only 3 or possibly 4 players that might feature in our regular starting XI .

A fantastic stadium, 3-0 flattered 1874 as their guys admitted we were by far the better team in the second half and had chances.
A number of useful lessons learnt from today's match indeed

This thread has calmed me somewhat - didn't realise it was basically an Diamonds XI. Hope the management team learned alot from the youngsters today. Good experience.

So quick to criticise, did you ever consider that the squad selection wasn't through choice? You seem to forget we're talking about non-profesional players with a late kick-off at the other end of the country. Some might say your comment is a bit of an insult to the management team!

Hope I ain't going to get criticised for joining in a debate, but chas slightly harsh there in my opinion, although Sussex diamond perhaps could of worded it better I can definitely see both sides. I fully understand that players have commitments and travelling distances etc, but so do the fans also.

I wasn't in attendance yesterday, and well done for the fans that went. But it couldn't have been a cheap day, 250mile round trip petrol, food, and the time of using a good 12 hours of your day.
Although it was a shield, it was a chance to get another piece of silverware to our history. I wanted to attend but decided not too, but after seeing the sub selection sort of glad I didnt because I didn't recognise many of the names

Like I said not the best way to express it Sussex diamond but can see your point of view
And the management team do a fantastic job, I'm sure no criticism was intended their way

One of the best parts of an enjoyable day in Cheshire was to see the way the young lads fitted in to the side when they came on - we saw some excellent 30 yard passes from Joe Holmes and brave runs from Omar as well as determination from the other lads. In an pre-season game you expect to see a mix of first teamers and youth team players - and we started with a full set of first teamers, with the exception of Ashley Meeks who must be a contender for a significant role at the club (and the pedants could argue Aaron King hasn't signed yet).

I wasn't convinced by the playing surface. I'm sure it was one of the best of the artificial surfaces available, but you'll never get the same sort of game played on it, however good it is. I can see its used to generate more revenue by additional uses, but I can see why the FA resist the introduction of such surfaces at the upper levels of the game.
