I'd vehemently disagree, from his first games, clearly not fit and struggling with the style of play, to the end of the season was a lot different, especially in the amount Sam got forward knowing Greg would cover his runs.Dowlo wrote:I wait to see how he is after pre-season. But I don't hold out much hope. I certainly saw no improvement in the time he played last year if anything he got worse. I'm sure a few people would agree.Formic wrote:Greg clearly wasn't match fit when he joined us, having not been playing for several months.

Re: New signing
That's good news that they all want to re-sign...club must be doing something right.
I guess 3 of the named list will be fringe players so we have space for a couple more signings.
We don't want the situation we had last season where too many were not getting a game and "rocked the boat".
I would like to see some of last seasons under 18's added to the squad or we run the risk of losing some lads with great potential.

Re: New signing
Isn't that what the U21 set-up for? Wasn't it recognised that the jump from U18 to Senior football, by and large, is far too great?sussexdiamond wrote: I would like to see some of last seasons under 18's added to the squad or we run the risk of losing some lads with great potential.

Re: New signing
I'd agree with that Trek, and as we don't have a reserve side the 21's fill that role.
Noah Bryant is a good example of a fluid system in action and I know that Andy Peaks is a great advocate of bringing players through so it will happen.
It will take time though, we've only had one class graduate from the Academy and it could be another seven or eight years before we see Academy graduates filling the first team.

Re: New signing
Yes SRJFC, Noah looks the lad most likely to make the transition to the 1st Team. I see Bully Adams has recently secured the services of Shane Lyons another very promising U18 player from last term's Doughboys youth set up so there will always be exceptions to the rule.

Re: New signing
Doesn't mention Deakin, Rashid Koriya or Quincy, but i'd imagine they've left the club. Certainly another keeper is required whether first choice or a back-up

Re: New signing
I think we could get away with not getting another keeper by promoting the U21 keeper. If needed we could alway bring one in, like what we did with Adam Whybrow when Quincy had his shoulder op.TheIncognitoKid wrote:Doesn't mention Deakin, Rashid Koriya or Quincy, but i'd imagine they've left the club. Re: New signing
Connor Brown has been sub on several occasions this season and should be given the opportunity to be Findlays understudy. He is the kind of player that I am advocating become part of the squad, and there are others. He can still get games at under 21 level to keep him match fit, only difficulty is if u21's still play on Saturday mornings and are too far away to get him to first team game.
Re: New signing
I don't mean to be funny, but that can't be the same Greg Ling who played for us last season! Honestly, I could have done better with some of the goalscoring opportunities he missed last season :roll:Formic wrote:Greg clearly wasn't match fit when he joined us, having not been playing for several months. Remember that he was part of the Long Buckby title winning side, alongside Dunkley, Koriya and Bunting - and Jason Turner was with their title rivals Kings Lynn - with both of those sides having a better record than Spalding had last season. He scored 16 goals that season (Dunkley scored 37, Turner 38, Koriya 22, and Tom Lorraine got 22 for Daventry in the same campaign).
