The problem nowadays is that the ball stays light throughout the match and it is very easy for the ball to fly up and away over the bar. Although the weight of the ball, pre match, according the the Laws of the Game hasn't changed for the last 70-80 years modern balls don't absorb any moisture therefore have this tendency to fly when poorly hit.

Ranks seems to be a rich vein of goal scoring form with another brace in last night's victory over Rotherham. Let's hope we can put a stop to this on Saturday. ;)
