Get yourself to Fenchurch Street, and trains go from there direct.

To get to fenchurch street you will have to get the northern line to bank from St Pancras, as the circle is closed. Then you will have to walk from Bank, which from memory is only a couple of hundred yards from Fenchurch St.

Is the Circle line definitely shut?

If not you can take the Metropolitan line to Aldgate which looks only about 250-300m from Fenchurch Street on google maps.

Edit. I see both the Circle and Metropolitan are shut. Bank it is then.

Borrowed this from Boroguide

Pre-Match Pint
Just adjacent to the top end of the ground as you arrive in Grays is a pub called The Bricklayers Arms, which is a fairly amiable place for a pre-match pint and meet-up. Although slightly limited on size, large-screen sports and a pool table will entertain.

Just before anyone gets too concerned, there will be tube strikes going on this weekend:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/london/8499667.stm

However, it should be noted that if you are going from St Pancras to Bank on the Northern Line, which i would assume most people, like myself, will be if going by train, you WILL NOT be directly affected by these strikes. Makes a change!!!!
