It was never going to suit everyone (myself included) but it is the sensible thing to do. I wonder how the Gateshead supporters have reacted to the change?

The pitch has been WRECKED by a stupid Rugby League team (Gateshead Thunder) who played on the pitch despite it being under a foot of water. Apparently they might have to postpone their Tuesday night game as well. Gateshead FC are very pissed off with Thunder as you can imagine. The gaem had ZERO per cent chance of going ahead.

Thanks for that - it will certainly silence the conspiracy theorists, as well as leaving a lot of egg on the faces of those who chose to criticise their own club on this thread.

As somebody else said, those of us who follow the team in distant away games wouldn't have fancied another midwek trip to the North East after having to do that last season as well - and given there weren't many of us there that night, we'd have struggled to get the support the team deserves for such a game.

According to my son, who lives in Newcastle and works in Gateshead the weather has been terrible in the area for the last 5-6 days with many inches of rain every day so it's not surprising it's been called off given the actions of the rugby league side coupled with the weather.

I still maintain it's wrong to switch the game at this short notice.

Out of interest has anyone considered that in an ideal world we would have just rearranged the fixture instead of postponed it? The problem is that Gateshead will be playing Tuesday - Saturday most weeks, with a possible trophy run thrown in as well (plus international football on TV in March).

I had a go at trying to find a different date, but it is a bit tough unless you extend the season:

As I said, I bet if it wasn't difficult to rearrange the game, we would have done instead of swapped. No way in hell would we want to order programmes, arrange matchday sponsors, organise catering (including pre match), match staff, stewards, sell tickets at such short notice if we had much choice. I think given that the Conference have been mentioned we've more or less had a gun to put to our head on this from a footballing perspective rather than from a footballing perspective.

Of course the club had a difficult choice to make, but at the end of the day it was the correct choice IMO. These things happen, you just have to get on with it.

Will the match be on Radio Diamonds?

I have a season ticket and I still won't be attending. Like others I think the Machester derby followed by England in the six nations will keep many at home.

Could see the gate fall below 1000 tomorrow! It would have made more sense to rearrange..
