To join as a member you will need to give your actual name, address etc all of which can be verified by the club.
Why don't you just join, I'm sure you can afford it, and see what you are missing, or not missing?
Otherwise feel free to swim against the tide. ;)

I'm waiting for the suggestion we should put free downloads of the programmes on the internet as people shouldn't be expected to pay £2 for a copy.

What is it you think you are missing out on by not being on the members' forum? Anything you could realistically want/expect to know about the club is posted on the Official Website, on here, on Twitter, on Facebook and in other local and (occasionally) national media.
At the risk of putting people off becoming a member just so that they can see what is on the members' forum, I'll let you in on a little secret; there is not an endless stream of confidential information being fed to the members on that forum. Many of the posts are just general football chat, no different to what goes on on this forum, although sometimes there are slightly sensitive topics that we wouldn't want the whole world to see. However, if there's something you want to know that you can't find anywhere else, then there are 12 board members who will be more than happy to talk to you at matches, or respond to you via PM or email. The members' forum serves the same purpose, but just makes it that bit easier.
And if one of our rivals were to sign up as a member and gain access to the forum they would probably be a little disappointed. There are no discussions about how much so-and-so gets paid, or specific detailed financial information about the club, and anyone asking those questions (be they a member, a general AFC R&D supporter, a complete neutral or the manager of another UCL club with Rushden in their name) will get exactly the same answer. I'll leave you to figure out what that answer would be!

Which falls perfectly to my point of why is it needed. It's not at all a 'benefit' to having the membership. There is no benefit to it, why pay to access information you can already read anyway? It's just another thing added to the list to make it seem as if you're getting more than you're actually paying for.
People are missing the point what I was getting at anyway, it's nothing to do with the price, my main question was WHY was it needed anyway & as DaveAlbon has in other words put it, it's not needed at all, it's just there to make up numbers in effect as everything important is said in public anyway.
I made note of it mainly because I wanted to see what advantages someone like myself would get for being a member as I have no need or use for the partnerships with local companies, nor do I feel the forum is needed, so I'm not sure what someone in my case, and I'm sure there is others like myself, are getting for the fee.

Despite your attempt at sarcasm, you could use this "suggestion" to digitalize the programmes and put them on the OS at £2 so that anyone who can't attend games can read the programmes, this is a kind of thing that should be included in those kind of membership deals. Maybe as a "digital matchday" type promotion, getting a video of the game, programme, etc, can't say I've seen it at any other club.

If you think that a members' forum is not needed then that is all well and fine and you are entitled to your opinion. However, there are many fans like me who are happy to pay a membership fee, get a nice shiny membership swipe card ;), and enjoy reading and contributing to a closed forum where our board members are willing to discuss issues and respond to our queries, such as the recent Starms interview where he appeared to have been misquoted, and then having their comments picked over and scrutinised by all and sundry not involved with our club including UCL officials.
Other instances where there have been the excellent debates have been on voting matters such as club strips, ground share alternatives, admission charges and this season's membership fees. Discussions on these matters would not have been appropriate on the Diamonds Forum, Twitter, Face Book or any other place in my opinion.

At the end of the day Matt, we are the members and those of us that use that forum are happy it is there as a small part of the package that is AFC Rushden & Diamonds. It is also a vehicle for us to vote on issues, review minutes from meetings and other such club issues. That is a benefit in my opinion. We made our choice, you made yours - seems good & fair to me ;)

You'll get a chance to vote on important club issues, every time you enter the D&D or pull on the shirt you are doing something that has been directly influenced by a Members Vote.
We do put agendas and minutes from the Members Forum's on the members area so that those who aren't able to attend the meetings are kept in the loop.
Plus you will have an enormous sense of well being.
The actual forum is probably not essential but is a nice little add on.

and rather than ask why i would say why not, theres no one size fits all for the reasons to be members and i would much rather we try things and they not work then not try at all.
To turn it round what is needed to attract a non member to become a member?

It's just another thing added to the list to make it seem as if you're getting more than you're actually paying for. You are not paying for access to a members' forum, you are paying for a share in AFC Rushden & Diamonds Community Benefit Society. We decided that we would include access to a members' forum as an additional benefit to being a member, and I would suggest that a considerable number of our members do see it as a benefit; hence the reason almost 200 of them have signed up on the forum

Please explain to me at what point in my post I said it was not needed?! All I said was there is not loads of confidential information posted on there. I clearly stated that there are some sensitive topics posted that we would prefer to keep out of the public eye, and that it aids communication between the board and supporters. Again, there are almost 200 members who do see the point in it.
I made note of it mainly because I wanted to see what advantages someone like myself would get for being a member as I have no need or use for the partnerships with local companies, nor do I feel the forum is needed, so I'm not sure what someone in my case, and I'm sure there is others like myself, are getting for the fee. How about the opportunity to vote on key issues relating to OUR club, discounts on club merchandise, the opportunity to stand for the club board and really make a difference to the direction of OUR club, access to an exclusive holiday offer in Spain, and countless more benefits which we are always looking to add. Of course, if none of that appeals to you then fair enough, no one will criticise you for that, but instead of moaning about something that doesn't interest you, how about you suggest some things that might encourage you to sign up?
