I seem to remember this as well, indeed I think it was a win at Holbeach. Probably doesn't say much, other than a Holbeach off-day? Perhaps Basford were below their best against us, but sadly I wasn't there to see.

From memory I don't think so. I believe that if you make the 4th round, you get a bye to the second round for the season after.
I don't think there is any prize for losing in the third round. Our bye last season seemed to be utterly random, but I wait to be corrected.
I think you're right, I remember being surprised at the time seeing us as a brand new step 6 team getting a bye in the first qualifying round, whereas there were step 5 teams who did have to play in the first qualifying round.

Most of the byes are drawn out of a hat, so to speak, just like the rest of the fixtures.
