Im suprised Histon have lasted as long as they have in all honesty! They are a village club and no bigger than most UCL teams.

With all these "big" clubs looking to downsize or dropping into Step 5 or 6 I think the sooner we get into step 4 the better.
We were unfortunate last season to come up against a "moneybags" club Sileby who bought the League One title and this season Spending Utd have done the same in the Prem, otherwise we may well have been champions in both seasons.

Who will it be next season... Oadby? or one of these reformed clubs.

We as a financially self supporting club can go as far as our fan base allows, but we are at the mercy of spendthrifts who throw money at useless causes, attempting to be very big fish in very small ponds.

I think we would be playing on a more even playing field in Step 4. Of course someone could return to the Ploppies and invest millions but we would still have the play offs rather than just the top spot to aim for.

Before anyone calls me a hypocrite because we/I was happy to take Max's millions all I say is, that is just my point.We as fans and a club know better than most the hurt that even a well meaning benefactor can ultimately bring to a club.

Interesting comment here from Brian Page, the Stutes manager, that their weekly budget was £1800 a week which appears to be about 50-60% of the figure Spending United are apparently paying. :o

Good lord. Has Fat Pat always spent that much at his other clubs, or is it just Spalding he's done that to? I reckon if I was going to piddle away the best part of three thousand pounds a week by blind grandmother could manage to win the league!

You do Spending Utd a disservice, best part of 3 grand a week, think you will find it`s much closer to 4. Still it will deliver the UCL Prem for them followed by what?? sure all playing staff will want more money when performing at Step 4 or will they all move on as it may be the turn of Wisbech or Deeping to have the collective Fenland mercenaries next season.

I wonder if Deeping or some other team might apply for promotion once Spalding are out of the way? If not, next season will be quite funny, with us only needing a top 3 finish to go up!

I suspect they'd have issues with ground grading, as would every other club in our league in my opinion besides Wellingborough and Wisbech although the latter declined the opportunity to go up last season. Spalding were fortunate that they already had a certificate from their previous spell in the level above as their ground was dreadful.

I do think it will be as you describe next season with us needing a top 3 finish to progress.

It will certainly be a challenge to second-guess what Wisbech might do. They are clearly the most professionally run club in the Fens, with the best Step 5 fanbase out there too, but if they did not think they could make Step 4 viable because of their remote location last season, when they had a chance to go up, one wonders what might change. They've clearly done well in the Vase, so perhaps they see Step 5 as their preferred level.
