Agree with that BR, fentiger also asked the question when did we last play well, I would think most would agree that was last Sat V Holbeach. Not sure what expectations are but they appear to vary greatly within our fan base. The targets set at the start of the season look like they will be achieved/exceeded, we could and I think we will finish 2nd in a tough Step 5 league at the first attempt, remember Wisbech could have been playing higher and they havn`t set the league alight, 2 teams moved across from the Midlands 2 seasons back thinking the UCL was an easy touch and after a year in mid table slid back. We stumbled in the odd game early season during a run of two months of 2 games every week, and have had a couple of sluggish performances since the New Year, which I think is mostly down to a large injury list in a small squad, while some are playing carrying knocks. Yes if/when we do reach Step 4 we will need to strengthen but IMO the basis of a squad for that level is already in place.BartonRaz wrote:A touch harsh IMO. Let's not forget that if it wasn't for a team spending an obscene amount of money we would actually be top despite not genuinely playing well on a regular basis since the start of the season.fentiger79 wrote:my personal opinion is that there are 6 players in our squad who are good enough to take us forward.

Ok, maybe a bit harsh. Just don't like losing when I know our team is so much better. I have seen absolutely nothing this year that should worry us for next year, spalding are a one of freak for this level and quite rightly will win the league by 20 points. A couple of decent signings and I have no doubt that the title will be a possibility next year and a good chance of the vase.

Most frustrating me for last night was the quantity of hoof-ball, and as such how boring large parts of the game were.
We have some excellent defenders, and we have some excellent ball-playing defenders who could easily play further up the field, especially Joe and Sam. So why oh why did last night the team continue with the smash-it-as-hard-as-you-can tactic? I could cry sometimes watching Parkinson play. If the management has decided that long-ball is the primary tactic, fine, but surely when it isn't working, like last night (when you have two forward players who, I thought, worked very well in the first half particularly, but no-one would say either are great headers) why did we not actively try to play on the floor? It's no surprise Koriya was much better last night because the pitch was harder, so give the darn ball to his feet and watch what he can do. I was thinking of asking and should have asked the interviewers to ask Starms this question, because I cannot figure it out.

Overall I think the best team won on the night, it was a very silly penalty to give away.
The referee once again was terrible, he really didn't want to give us anything.
Regarding Greg Ling, clearly the guy is lacking in confidence. He almost seemed afraid of the ball at times, but I think with a bit more confidence he could be a decent player for us.
Was impressed with the new guy Ryan Walker, who looks to be a promising player.

I have asked him this in the past and he said that it wasn't in the plan and that he wondered if the players panicked and resorted to that style of play.Pete wrote:I was thinking of asking and should have asked the interviewers to ask Starms this question, because I cannot figure it out.
It's probably right and there's only so much you can do from the sideline to calm the players down on the pitch. That's why a player such as Bunting is so important, he calms others down and moves the ball around on the ground. Unfortunately both central midfielders had poor games by their standards yesterday.

Deeping celebrated like they'd won the world cup, I guess we are a big scalp for most teams at this level.
Hopefully a much improved performance against Kempston on Saturday.

Same group of lads who ran on the pitch against Eynesbury last season and who threw the smoke bomb on the pitch against WulfruniansJames Beil wrote:I was standing in that end, I think a couple of lads might have just had a little too much to drink - I got the impression they knew Deeping's keeper, but throwing stuff at a player just isn't on. Don't give what you can't take springs to mind
Let's hope for a more positive response Saturday...

Well it always seems to be the same couple of lads doing this...the club knows who it is, so it's about time they were stopped from coming in. One small mouthy little **** who can't seem to hold his drink gobbing off last night on the way out... He was also stood behind me at cogenhoe 2 weeks ago giving it all that because he was stood in front of the stand people were sitting in and was asked to move by an older guy of their club. The guy was pleasant enough about it and didn't deserve the mouthful he got. He is simply creating a bad name for the club.TheIncognitoKid wrote:Same group of lads who ran on the pitch against Eynesbury last season and who threw the smoke bomb on the pitch against WulfruniansJames Beil wrote:I was standing in that end, I think a couple of lads might have just had a little too much to drink - I got the impression they knew Deeping's keeper, but throwing stuff at a player just isn't on. Now I don't condone violence in football, but he is going to be put in his place one day because it was also my family commented on they think he was mocking the girl (sorry to be ignorant but I don't know the girls name) who was sat in the stand that night.

Oh Dear, I have just composed myself to comment. It was a bad day at the office, but, what made it worse, was the fact that they were no better. We, to be honest, did not play to a level where we deserved anything other than a defeat and that is exactly what we got. Bad Day, Bad Performance, Bad Result.
It is also something we have to step back and realise we are not yet the finished article.
