FC diamonds
Re: FC diamonds
From my point of view its a mouth full when your looking at it from a domain name perspective.
I think the new club should have a new domain name, when you come to look at it, thediamondsfc.com isn't the teams name; we're not called the Diamonds FC.
The site started off as an unofficial site and slowly the Club took it over from Greg.
The problem though is finding a new domain name, every good / average Rushden domain has now gone and anything with AFC in would just be too long or a jumble of letters -
afcrushdenanddiamonds.com or afcrdfc.com

Re: FC diamonds
Who has the current domain? Would we not be able to use that? Sorry if it's an obvious answer...

Personally I like Nene Valley United (sounds a bit odd I know)
Re: FC diamonds
Its registered to the Diamonds, point of contact was Matthew Banyard.
I personally feel the new club should have a new domain name but we should take over the old domain name and set up a 301 redirect so thediamondsfc.com domain transfers traffic to the new site.
A 301 redirect will also tell google the site has moved meaning any future searches for rushden and diamonds would send traffic through to the new site using the old sites SERPS.

I'd agree with that, straight away publicises the Phoenix club and links it to Rushden and Diamonds.Stalin wrote:I personally feel the new club should have a new domain name but we should take over the old domain name and set up a 301 redirect so thediamondsfc.com domain transfers traffic to the new site.

Willem II is named after a King - King William the second! It's not the second incarnation of a club called Willem!!
I think the last thing you should worry about is a name. You need first to work out a business plan (which includes finding sponsorship, planning revenue streams, organising events which keep the fans together as well as fundraising in preparation for next season, etc), arrange to register with Northants FA and the FA for next season (obeying all the injunctions that entails), find a ground to play in which would be acceptable to all levels of League officials, appoint suitably UEFA qualified and if necessary CRB'd coaches, organise open trials, find someone to scout out untapped talent, appoint a PR person, and engage the interest of the local Press.
Then start thinking of the name, the colours, the strip!
Although, if it were me, I think the ploy of putting "AFC" in front of the old name to indicate a phoenix club is a misunderstanding of why it was used in the first place - which was by Wimbledon fans anxious to differentiate the phoenix club from the one which became MK Dons and at that stage was still using the name Wimbledon FC. I think that format reached its apogee with the formation of the clumsily named AFC Telford United. There will be no other Rushden & Diamonds, so you don't need the AFC, actually. I would investigate whether or not the name is trademarked by Cousins or and if not, nick it back.
If it can't be used for legal reasons, think of another name which incorporates Diamonds somehow, but which is sufficiently different... Nene Valley Diamonds FC?
I agree with what your saying RD about the other things such a registering and fundraising ideas to be high on the list of priorities but to be honest I think the name of the new club is vital.
For me, its simple, we have GOT to include 'Rushden' and we've got to include 'Diamonds' its who we are, its our history and its the whole reason why we're doing it, we ARE Rushden & Diamonds.
Say for example K*ttering came to NP and 12months down the line changed their name to 'K*ttering Diamonds' to please the 40% of turncoats, and our new team was AFC Rushden, FC Diamonds or Nene Valley Whatever, people from the outside will be thinking "well which ones Rushden & Diamonds". We need to make it absolutely clear who we are and that we're the true football fans. For the first time in our history, people from other clubs and organisations will be on our side and we need to use their support.
Im not knocking anyone who have suggested alternative names, such as East Northants or FC Diamonds or AFC Rushden, Nene Valley Diamonds etc because Im over the moon people are looking to really support the phoenix club. FC Rushden & Diamonds or Rushden Diamonds FC for me (The latter will show that although we're proud of the founder clubs seperate history's we're now united as one.)
RD, you make a good point about even keeping the original name I think that could be viable as KC in theory now has no connections with R&DFC and the Beasants are actually the directors of R&DFC Ltd.. Having said that I think the slightest of name changes could be beneficial.
