Parking at Peterborough Station has improved immensely in the last few months. I'm not sure on cost though.

It's Chesney Hawkes, actually.

My comments on parking in Peterborough were general. All car parks including the Westgate multi storey are expensive for all day parking.

could it have been much farther?

I knew the draw was just north and south, and unfortunately we will always be classed as " Northern B*******ds".

I was rather hoping though for a trip to Tunbridge Wells or Peacehaven!!

I've been going up to Northumberland on holiday for many years now, it's a beautiful part of the country. It is however a bloody long drive! I've done business in Newcastle and have travelled by train from Peterborough and flown from Bristol. For anyone living in the south west I can recommend flying it's cheap and dead quick, but the train is a good alternative, I've found Peterborough station very easy to get to and to park and the trip to Newcastle is only a couple of hours, if you book now you should get a good deal.

But you have all got to remember, you have to then faff around in Newcastle to try and get over to Ashington, plus faffing around getting too Peterborough. I think the train route will be a lot longer than driving or busing.

I guess they will need two drivers, Ron.

When we went to Gatehead all those years ago we did, but I'm not sure anymore, the guy on the phone said they needed 45 minutes break, but Its basically no more than 10 hours driving in a day, so pushes it a bit, so expect two drivers (if one day return, if staying over night one driver - but you have to factor in the drivers expenses)

PS, people thinking of trains, there are no trains direct to ashington, so you have to "wing" it from Newcastle, and Ashington looks like 25 odd miles from Newcastle, so not really an option.
