Extremely extreme! Very annoyed with the FA. This incident just makes me Understand why the likes of Ian Holloway - Legend - Have nothing but bad things to say about them.

If the referee really has said that the only way you can be interfering with play is if you touch the ball, then that is scary. How can a referee be allowed to take charge of a match, at any level, if he clearly doesn't know the rules? I qualified as referee last year and even i know that there are three ways you can be offside;
1."Interfering with play"- which means playing or touching the ball touched or passed by a team-mate.
2. "Interfering with an opponent" - means preventing an opponent from playing or being able to play the ball by clearly obstructing the opponent's line of vision or movements or making a gesture or movement which, in the opinion of the referee, decieves or distracts an opponent.
3. "Gaining an advantage by being in that position" - means playing a ball that rebounds to him, either off the post or crossbar or an opponent.

If think it's quite clear that Bowditch, by being directly infront of Joe and dummying the ball, clearly decieved and distracted him so there is no doubt that he is offside in my opinion.

I have seen the highlights, and read the reports, and listened to the interviews, and I agree with all of them, and all of you... There is no doubt that the referee was wrong, that the Assistant Referee had to show solidarity with the senior Referee on the day, and that even the Yeovil players thought they wouldn't get the decision: but I have highlighted, in your post, Sam, the get out of jail free card which every referee will play in this type of situation.

All he has to say is that in his opinion the player wasn't interfering with play, and it doesn't matter how well he knows the laws or their application, he has fulfilled their requirements by stating his opinion.

He's still wrong, and it's still galling, but he holds the trump card, sadly.

Whilst I can see your point, Alan, and I was making the same point to the people around me yesterday, the fact still remains that referee has allegedly said that Bowditch was not interfering with play because he hasn't touched ball, and that is wrong.

I could have sworn that when it came up along the bottom of the screen it didn't mention Hartlepool... :|

Anyway you are right. I agree, let's hope that Hartlepool win then and that they get knocked out due to a controversial decision.

I've just seen the goal on the ITV website. Unbelievable decision to allow it to stand. Of course if a Premiership team had been in R & D's position we would hear about nothing else on the sports channels with calls for more technology/clearer rules to be introduced etc.

Sadly because it is a 'little' team (and I don't mean that disrespectfully) nothing is said. The same thing happened for Orient at Leeds a few years ago when our winning goal wasn't given despite being over the line by almost 2 feet. Unless you are Premiership, at a push in the Championship or one of the more fashionable teams in League one like Southampton or Charlton, you don't exist.

The other week it was a premier team, The goal Huddlestone scored against Fulham was very similar, i do not think the player was quite in the goalkeepers line of vision as much as the Yeovil player was in Joe Day's, but again after referee consulting linno the goal stood.
