I was thinking along those lines earlier, is it FA Vase rules that state you have to go to a replay if it's level after extra-time, because I'm sure the Ashington players would hate a replay?

I did post, don't know where it went!
Just wondered if any replay will have to be the following weekend, given the distance involved?

I was going to say I hope they do a replay midweek...It would be hugely unfair to not arrange a vase replay for midweek, It wouldnt happen in the fa cup, so why should the vase be any different?

8 out of 10 cats has just been on and it doesn't require full concentration! Whilst I was watching, I did a list of vase ties and distance each away team needs to travel:

Also found this on non-league matters, explaining the draw sections:

F.A. Vase 3rd Round draw

Draw released Monday 19th November 2012
Ties to be played Saturday 8th December 2012

St. Ives Town or Wisbech Town moved from East Region to North
Kidlington and Ardley United both moved from South Region to West

North and Midlands Regions amalgamated
East and South Regions amalgamated

Despite the amalgamations, other than three teams above that have been re-located,
only seven ties (3, 5, 6, 9, 11, 16 & 20) are between teams that were in different
regions for the previous round.

Ties between clubs from the same league & division are no's 8, 10, 19(TBC), 25, 29 & 32

Only one tie guarantees progress for a non step 5 side - no. 7

Total of 70 clubs remain
56 Step 5, 12 Step 6 and 2 Step 7
(two postponements and four replays all playing on Tuesday 20th)

As I'm on the road at the moment I don't have easy access to the Vase Rules but I wondered how the economics work.
I seem to recall gate receipts being split after expenses, and various extra travel expenses could be claimed for long journeys. At this level it looks more than possible that expenses could exceed receipts. Is that regarded as the participating clubs' problem? If so it might mean a club with limited resources is less inclined to win a replay if they face a huge trip in the next round at considerable expense.

Any profit/loss is split 50/50 between the competing clubs after referee's expenses and away team travel/accommodation expenses have been deducted from the gate receipts. Of course, you could get a situation like you mention above, although the £1500 given to the 3rd Round winners would probably more than make up for any losses!

Interestingly, I'm keen to see where our officials come from for the Ashington game. For the Fakenham game they were from Cambridgeshire, midway between Northants and Norfolk; for Basford they came from Leicestershire, midway between Northants and Notts. Midway between us and Ashington is Sheffield/Doncaster sort of area, so the officials travelling expenses could wipe out most of the gate receipts straight away!

Plus with our team expenses on top, it may mean Ashington being out of pocket, as they usually get crowds of 200.
I wonder if they would want to switch the tie ;) :) 8-)
