Formic wrote:I didn't think the referee was having too bad a game until the Sam Brown incident - perhaps a bit over fussy on where throw-ins were taken, but we gave the ref at Sileby stick for having the opposite policy. The ref was also ready to explain his decision after the game, which was commendable, and if you don't see an incident properly you can't just make a decision based on how bad the injury is - as we saw in the Sunderland v Wigan game.

Similarly, whilst I'd agree one of the offside decisions was clearly wrong (although others were criticised despite being correct), as Sam Brown was clearly onside when he ran onto a chip forwards, but he and Deven Elwood were a long way from the official and at that distance its not so easy to spot that Elwood wasn't close enough to the ball to be interfering with play.

Sam Brown's tweets overnight suggest the injury might not be as bad as first feared.
Up until 'that' incident I thought the ref was having an excellent game, one of the best performances we've seen this season (and I'm not just saying that in case he's reading this before reffing our game on Saturday ;) ). Credit to him also for explaining his decision after the game; he didn't actually see the contact himself, which was why he spoke to the assistant on that side, and it was the assistant who said it didn't deserve a card! If the ref doesn't see it he can't give anything, so he has to put his faith in his assistants, who on this occasion let him down.

It is pretty clear that Jake and Alfie dont work well together and watching them play it appears that they do not communicate with each other. They are fairly similar as they are always looking to do things on their own and not use each other. Ben and Dev bring much more out of them IMO.

We'll have to improve ten fold if we're to get the three points we need on Saturday.

I'd like to see the addition of some big horrible bastard of a striker next season. It just doesnt stick up top, and keeps coming back at us. For me, Alfies more of a wide man. Jake still hasnt won me over. For me, Morgs deserves a start. Lance was brilliant last night, and given Starms a headache for starturday no doubt.

For Saturday I'd go..

Alf xxxxxxx xxxxxxx Gearing

Morgs Newman

Nor Lance or Wiz deserve to be dropped, and Dev hasnt done anything wrong, but I just feel against Oadby, Gearing has that little bit more quality. And as a full back having played against both lance and Wiz, they're the last two you want coming on with half hour left when your running on fumes ;)

Rothwell are playing Oadby twice next week (Mon and Wed). On last nights showing I think they can get at least a point. Rothwell are very aggressive/determined and obviously keen to leave their mark on the top teams. If we can beat Oadby then they may struggle against Rothwell.

On another point. You 31 fans who stayed at home to watch England would have done better to come and freeze with the rest of us than watch that shambles on TV.

I watched Rothwell at home to Sileby and they were a little unfortunate to lose 3-1 so those expecting us to wrack up a 6-0 victory last night saw it wasn't quite like that.

Having said that a below par performance from us we all know we can play better and it's up to us to create that spirit we showed away at Sileby.

A groundhopper has given a (brief) report on last nights game on the lateTony Kempsters non-league forum:

UCL - Division 1
AFC Rushden & Diamonds 2 Rothwell Corinthians 1
Admission £5.00
Programme £2.00
Attendance - 319

A strange game which the Diamonds should have won easily. Unfortunately there is a bit of arrogance, greed and swagger from their front two and they missed a hatful of chances. After they had made three substitutions a Rothwell player clattered one of theirs reducing them to 10 men for the rest of the game. The Rothwell player should have walked but some extremely weak reffing didn't even lead to a yellow card.

I wouldn't argue too much with his analysis.

Was the crowd last night 319 (as per match report) or 309 as per several other references (including club tweet earlier)?

The 309 did not include for the ten in hospitality hence it was updated to 319.
