Too many knee jerks comments just because we lost a game of football this afternoon. Sileby, Oadby, Eynesbury etc. have been established a lot longer than us and don't forget AFC Wimbledon didn't achieve promotion at the first attempt

Totally agree, we lose a game and the knives are out. This is the UCL not Div2. 8-)

Doesn't matter what league we are in or how long we have been about. Doesn't distract from the fact 350+ Diamonds fans paid to watch utter crap

It wasn't c**p, it was an entertaining game of football played on a dreadful pitch won by a team who were far more clinical than our team in front of goal despite our boys shading the first half without actually scoring. Their goal just before the break was a good strike and came out of the blue. I agree that a few of our lads were off the pace today but don't forget we are missing Merrill, Dent, Wizz and Ellwood. They would have made a difference. There's still plenty of football left to play this season. ;)

I agree with the more cautious posters. One loss shouldn't define a season's progress, especially when it doesn't wholly put us out of the promotion race. I've been impressed with us this season and looking at the example of Wimbledon that has been referred to lots it won't even be a disaster if we don't go up at the first attempt. I certainly won't be throwing my toys out the pram. Any evaluation should happen when our fate is sealed. I personally didn't expect us to nail it first time - starting from scratch is always going to be difficult - true success takes time to formulate.

Saying that, I don't think the fact we're a fan-owned club (and the justified sense of affection that comes with that) should mean the management and players should be placed in cotton wool away from criticism from the fans. If anything, it should mean that we're more vocal if things aren't going well given we have the power to change things.

That's why we elect a board and give them the power to manage the affairs of our Club. They have my full support.

Blimey, a vote of confidence in the Board and the Senior side is only 5 months old ............. I'll get my coat shall I? ;)

I'm as disappointed as the next fan tonight, but I'm not going to panic just yet, loads of games and lots of points to play for, there will be a lot of twists and turns to come before the season ends I'm sure.

Goals change games, if we'd netted the opportunities that fell our way in the first half we might all be a lot happier tonight, we didn't, they did - thats football. We move on to Tuesday night and hopefully on to a good win, its imperative that the lads respond to this set back in a positive way.

Gutted about the score,

Just quickly looking through the footage for the first time, we had eight chances in the first half to their one, we had three in the second and they had four. They scored all theirs and we scored just one.

It doesn't really matter as we lost 5-1, however had we taken any of our eight i don't think they would have come out with their tales up quite so much and i think it would have been a very different scoreline.

That said the scoreline reads 5-1, just as at Eynesbury if you don't score when you have your chances you will be punished.

What would you have rather been doing?

Today's a blip and they will happen, however to get on at players who are playing mainly for enjoyment and a little bit of money is out of order in my view.

We don't have a divine right to go up this season we have to earn that right through performances on the field and sensible policies off it.

We've lost two and drawn two of our games, that's a better record than Man Utd or Man City, but neither of them will expect to win the title in January (OK most of Surrey will expect ManUre to win)

Knee jerk reactions are always to be expected from football fans, the team can be going along very nicely, winning games and the fans will lavish the praise on them, then just one defeat (albeit a large one) comes along to a good team and all of a sudden we've failed and should start thinking about next season, even though we're not even halfway through the season. Don't get me wrong, of course I'm pissed off at how embarrassing our collapse was today but like the Eynesbury game, it could have been different if we had put our chances away when we got them, if we had managed to get the first goal today, I hardly think it would have finished 1-5.

And I refuse to subscribe to the view that if we don't get promoted we've failed and its the end of the world just because we've got a big fanbase, I don't want this club to be a shit or bust club, we're in a league with 2 very good teams for this level that could possibly even be pushing for the top of the UCL prem. And I think if we don't get promoted this season, then we'll be promoted with Oadby and Sileby out of the way, lessons learnt from this season and proper strengthening of the squad in the summer, so personally I'm not too concerned long term, we've got a bright future whatever happens this season.
