Glad to hear that things are moving ahead, and your right, I'm definately not being negative, just realistic.Mad Dog wrote:Good points Jim. I think the above is in the works, we need that first meeting. Whilst we can't look too far ahead in terms of name, badge, ground, which needs to be discussed by the fans, we shouldn't look too far ahead negatively (I know you're not, I hope you get my meaning).
There are people looking into how to set up a Phoenix club, plus in this topic the AFC Telford chairman has offered to talk to us about getting this off the ground. There may be things that we're not aware of yet that means certain things may not be as tough as we might think, although that's not to downplay or throw obstacles in the way.
Just some food for thought. I'm looking forward to having a meeting on all this.
I'm a community development officer by day (evening and night it feels like sometimes!!) and meet people all the time with great ideas about what can be done in their community, but many times they don't have the support, knowledge and skills to bring it off, and I know how tough it can be to get the right people involved in projects.
I also know how frustrated they get when the great idea sometimes can't be made a reality because we can't get the necessary support - that was my concern with this, lots of willing and passionate indians but no chiefs.
There are people who have done this before that might be prepared to help, people like Max, Chris Smith and Tony Jones, I stress, not to run a club and put money into it, but to give us the benefit of their experience, to lead a steering group through those early stages, to help identify the right people to lead into the future maybe (if they don't come forward themselves).
I'll help as far as I can, but my help will be limited, the day job and the family will always come first and my concern is we'll have far too many people who will say the same as me.
I remain positive and will support the venture all I can, like I said, just being realistic here, some folk seem to have us winning the UCL on 2012/13 by a country mile in front of 600 fans at the moment, we haven't even got a steering group together, let alone a ground to use and a team to play !

I had you down for cooking & selling the bacon rolls at the new club JIm ;)
I think it's an excellent idea to approach the I'boro Diamonds Trust people to ask for their advice.
:o
Just had the thought, my impending nipper will only know the new club. Better stock up on very small shirts

Might hit the profits a bit as I'm not sure how many would get past my stringent quality control measures ;)Two of Diamonds wrote:I had you down for cooking & selling the bacon rolls at the new club JIm ;)

Just an idea but while talking to the I'boro Diamonds Trust it might be an idea to clarify with them who owns the piece of land over the A6. I know it does have a tendancy to flood, but if you could secure your own piece of land to play on, rather than have to rent or ground share it opens up so many more options in the future.
If you have/own your own ground you can plan your destiny and not be dicatated to by a greedy landlord

Perhaps once the meeting is arranged to form the new club, it might be a good idea to hand out direct debit forms so we can start to build a pot of money. Sort of a share scheme, or pre-paying for season tickets? This could go on to help determine our playing budget.

We need a club that doesnt involve KC, or HT. Im sure we could use Gill's experience to our advantage in setting up the club!

I totally agree with you about Gill, but I guess she has other things on her mind at the moment, I hope she does get involved though - people of her calibre and enthusiasm are few and far between.
