Good suggestion. That could be regarded as doing a 'Derek Dougan', older posters will know what I mean but it concerns our friends up the road.
Another suggestion is to have the letters ONE on the back of the jersey, with Dale Roberts underneath.
Incidentally the individual leagues never set this rule. Infact it was the FA, back in 2003, who instructed the wording to be incorporated into each league's constitution Step 2 and below.
I like the wording in the UCL 's current handbook which says 'Shirts must be numbered 1-17 such that the numbers can be clearly identified by officials and spectators'. Simple!

Perhaps we should just register Dale as the number 1 & simply mark him as "unavailable".

Won't work. There aren't registered 'playing numbers' in Step 2 and below. Starting players are expected to wear 1-11 hence the Southern League's stance.

A dissenting voice in todays NLP !!! Jack Reed (who fails to give his address) accuses AFC R &D of " totally unreasonable emotional blackmail against the Southern League."
Hope he is not planning to visit Dog and Duck in the near future.
On a positive note columnist Sam Elliot in the NLP accuses the SL Chairman of " embarrassing non league football," and offers to pay our first fine.

Does it sit on the Southern League board by any chance?

"AFCR&D in emotional common sense blackmail" shocker !!
Some people are clueless aren't they? Or maybe heartless might be a better description!!
I'm not holding my breath for the FA to make the right decision either. If the Southern League had an ounce of sense they'd say "we've listened to public opinion and have decided to amend our rules" - but they'll wait either for them to be told to do it, or if the FA fold, smile smugly and say I told you so!
