To answer my own question, according to the end of the match report:

8 penalties awarded.
2 scored - Tomlin both times.
6 missed - Terry, Tomlin, Farrel, Louis, O'Connor and Corcoran.

I really don't understand our problems with penalties. In the pre-season tournament in Devon we beat Blackpool on penalties without missing a single one (Dale, Farrel, Corcoran and Smith scored).
I think it must just be that we get on a run of bad penalties. Once one or two were missed, then i guess players lose confidence, and maybe swapping and changing the penalty taker doesn't help? It may also be the fact that the first one we had, was the first game of the season, in the first half i think. I guess it just set the tone really! A bit like Tommo's miss at Rothwell

I agree - and if you think that Tommo's miss at Rothwell and his miss at Workington were possibly the worst of the bunch, then he can't really be regarded as a safe penalty taker either. Michael Corcoran did score one at Workington in the FA Cup - which makes it 3 successes in nine attempts.

Perhaps we should get Graham Alexander from Burnley to give our players some lessons.

Pretty sure it was virtually the first minute of the new season actually

Our hopeless penalty taking filtered down to the youth team as well; Matt Evans missed against the Wobbl£r$ in the FA Youth Cup with a penalty about as bad as Tommo's at Workington! Having said that, Aynsley McDonald did score in a shoot out while he was at Wingate & Finchley, so it might be a good idea to include him in the squad for the play off 2nd leg (and final if we get there) just in case we go to penalties!

Well Stuart and Downer haven't been playing that well, and we haven't got much to play for, so throw him in ;)

and imo i disagree with you on those two players mentioned, i think they both have played a huge part in our defence. Downer has only just come back from injury anyway, so "lately" doesnt really apply does it? He was bought on as sub and then played this game.
I'm pretty sure he was joking. ;)
