Re: Tonight
Oadby match report. Seems like their defender, Joe Cobb picked up a bad injury.

I was at both as well, at Chester we carted Duane around on our shouldersChorltonV wrote:I was there for both great times.TheIncognitoKid wrote:Don't know how many fans remain supporting AFC, from the pitch invasion at Chester or to win the Beazer homes premier against Merthyr Tydfil. Whilst tonight's result was fantastic (and VERY unexpected) we do need to keep our feet firmly on the ground; time for cool heads, stout hearts and strong minds !! We've won nothing yet and need to remain grounded as we have some hard games ahead of us...............now I've said that, blooming great isn't it??

I went to see Whitworths v Northampton Spencer tonight, and while we "should" beat both, Spencer displayed some clinical finishing and in fairness it was what separated the sides, Whitworths had plenty of chances, especially at 1-2, but lacked that clinical edge. I saw enough from both to know that they'll be hard and physical games (it was amazing both sides finished with 11 men) and I can quite see why Spencer took points off of Oadby and Sileby and we'll need to be at our best to the very end of the season to pick up the prize we all crave.
It being in our own hands at this stage is terrific though, I never expected that.
Let's travel in large numbers on Saturday and really get behind the lads !! Win Saturday and then on to Eynesbury - that is going to be MASSIVE !!!

In my experience, you stop some twat from breaking the crossbar by sitting on it, swop scarves with a Chester City fan, then watch, embarrassed, as your eldest son - with permission from Max and Darbs - kisses the Conference trophy.Bob's Bitch wrote:Pitch invasion etiquette: Once you've ran onto the pitch, what do you do exactly? YMMV, of course.

Re: Tonight
I think a draw was a fair result. The game kicked off 5 minutes late - I assume because of Bugbrooke's lack of players (that's why somebody thought the first half was so long - actually there was only 1 minute added time). The game really changed after about 50 minutes when one of Bugbrooke's two nippy strikers (Andy Ranft) picked up a serious groin injury, but he had to continue due to their apparent lack of any subs. This meant that Bugbrooke's attacking threat went, and he was often caught offside. Oadby hit the post and bar, and Levi Ramsey trod on the ball when the keeper was stranded and he just needed to find an open goal. Ranft almost got a second for Bugbrooke when he hobbled forwards for a set piece, but it did look like Oadby might get a winner, but they panicked and started shooting from range.Trek wrote:Oadby match report. One of the biggest cheers of the night accompanied the Leicester City score, but they must have been disappointed with the turn-out af around 70.

There's also a lot of hugging people you don't know involved, any random person is fair game - if you're really drunk you might drop to your knees, kiss the turf with a tear in your eye and praise the Lord for making it so .................or was that just me

I think we must accept that the pressure is really on us now - we've been "underdogs" for such a good while as Oadby and Sileby looked untouchable - but now we are the team that must cope with teams like Bugbrooke who want to put their mark on the title race.
It was good to see several other Diamonds fans there - it reminded me a bit of my trip to the Huish to see Hereford beat Yeovil - was it really 12 years ago?

Re: Tonight
I agree completely with that assessment. Levi Ramsey looked awful and was a complete carthorse  with a clinical striker they would have got 3 points. Initially I was a bit gutted when they scored the equaliser but given that they hit the woodwork twice and were camped in the Bugbrooke half all of the second then it's a fantastic resultFormic wrote:I think a draw was a fair result. I'm surprised that Bugbrooke couldn't name any subs, I know it's a trek for a mid week game and players have work commitments etc but they have 3 reserve sides!

Re: Tonight
The pressure will always be on us Tony because of our name ;)
We need to just keep doing what we're doing - the squad is looking good and is confident, but not overly so.
No matter where we play we're always the team people want to beat, you should be used to that by now ;)
It'd be good to get that other fan that was at Yeovil that night to an AFC match - where is Jim these days???
