I had always thought Rushden Town were just a bigger side?davealbon wrote:I don't know what the respective average attendances were of Rushden Town and Irthlingborough Diamonds, but it always struck me as quite odd that there seem to be far more ex-Rushden supporters following R&D than there are ex-Diamonds' fans (as backed up by this vote). Given that we play at the old Irthlingborough Diamonds ground, I would have though that more of their supporters would follow the new club.
I was also a fan of neither club, it wasn't until 1996 when I first attended a game, and about 18 months later before I really got hooked and couldn't keep away from the place!

Diamond down South.
Re: Who did you support...
I moved to Rushden in 1988 at the age of 9 and started following the Russians straight away. I was actually a ball boy for a couple of seasons and if i remember we used to get a cuppa tea, 50p and a programme at half time.
Frankie Belfron, Andy Kirkup and Kevin Fox - legends.
Then after getting hooked, Mt Griggs came along and took me a journey i'll never, ever forget....the rest they say is history, but thankfully our future looks bright once more.

Whilst I saw neither of the former clubs, as I was too young. My grandad was one of the founding members of Irthlingborough Diamonds along with Tony Jones etc. My mum also used to watch the Diamonds through the 70s. So I am a diamond.
