Forget 1966, I was never alive then, so despite winning, it's still a world cup that means nothing to me. Personally the greatest world cup ever was Italia 90, when England should have won and no team was complete without a least one mullet. True, but those included draws against England and a Gullit-era Holand. Pretty impressive results.
It was a far better WC than in '94 (when we beat Italy) and '02 (where we beat Saudi Arabia). Not always about winning - watch the video - as I'm sure you English know by now :P ;)
