Memorial charity tornament

My friend and I have had an idea of creating a fans football tornament at the end of the season in memory of Dale Roberts. Any money raised could be donated to charity and teams from Forest etc would be invited. Any thoughts on if this could achievable?

Many thanks

A great idea. Proceeds could perhaps go to Dale's family, or a suitable charity like Samaritans.

Perhaps a Dale XI (made up of suitable players form his career, such as Rushden, Nottingham Forest and England C teammates) versus a Fans XI match? A once-off game, played at Nene Park would probably attract more fans and raise more money, than a fans' tournament.

Really good idea and something I had thought of today also. I'm very confident that Adam Johnson would be up for this big time. It may be worth doing it as a Dale Team-mates XI against an all-star XI. This could get some big players playing and a lot of money raised. Just like when Keith Alexander died, shirts can be signed and auctioned off on eBay. I would be very interested in helping with the running and contacting of players for this. I am looking at doing a Public Relations project for my portfolio at University, so tis could be really helpful.

I have spoke to Helen Thompson. She said how anything that is done will have a blessing on Dale's family. It is being passed on to Canon Roger Knight who is in close contct with the family to be suggested.
I mentioned it to a Premiership player on Twitter earlier, and he thinks Prem players would be interested.

I think this would be a great idea, and a very fitting tribute to Dale.

I'm pretty sure Chris Brown (Preston centre forward) was a friend of Dales, and would probably be interested in taking part. He is on twitter should anyone wish to contact him.

Just a thought, should this game get off the ground, how about as a curtain raiser a team from Horden take on a team of fans from Rushden?? I'm sure it would be arrangable and would give some of Dales close friends a chance to pay tribute to their friend.

I'd be more than willing to help out with this. I know a fair few of his close friends, and I also run a team so have strips and things available for use.
