Calendar

I have been collating a list of the legends of R&DFC for the past couple of months with the idea of making a calendar to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the club. I was thinking that as this would be a limited edition, say 1,000 we could sell them at a tenner each which would mean a decent profit minus costs. The idea would be to ask each person/month a few questions (which haven't been decided) I.E. what was your best memory? What are you doing now? The list was chose by asking quite a few people, not just from here but supporters that never use this site. The list was narrowed down by asking OTHERS so it isn't MY list (before certain people think I'm on an ego trip) so won't be EVERY persons cup of tea. The thing is that as I work away in a lorry all week and not too hot on computers I have no idea/time how to go any further. I am hoping somebody could work out 1, how to progress with it 2, Contact the people concerned to ask the questions. 3, To seek the cheapest option on printing/publishing.
The list is

Duane Darby.
Paul Underwood.
Tarkan Mustafa.
Dale Watkins.
Adie Mann.
Darren Collins.
Michael McElhatton.
Andy Peaks.
Gary Butterworth.
Onandi Lowe.
Billy Sharp.
Max Griggs.

I created a calendar at a self-publishing site called lulu.com for my family. I only made four, and they were expensive because of that (they get cheaper the more you produce) but they were beautifully produced.

Of course, I used my own photographs, but one thing that occurs to me is that if you use photos you haven't taken, then you will have to get permission to use them from the copyright owner. It might be an idea to ask someone like Mal Swinden ("Red Snapper"?) if he could provide/advise on photos.

First the excuses, with the hours involved visiting an elderly mum in Buckinghamshire and step kids in Norfolk, and a job that requires me to work VERY funny and long hours, I'll find it hard to dedicate too much time to this - but I think its a terrific idea (although I don't agree with Billy Sharp being there as he was a loan player and not a proper Diamond, but I'll let that one go ;) ).

So, is there anyone else prepared to meet up with me to get a plan of action together? We'll need someone good at graphic design to pull it together (definately not me !!) for free and we'll need someone who has contacts with a printing firm who might do something flexible on the pricing front .......if you know what I mean? Getting it all designed is one thing, getting the dosh together to print it another - but each bridge at a time eh !!

We'll also need someone at the club to help us track down the various players, I've got a mobile number for Duane, but that could be well out of date !! I'll text him later and see.

I'm happy to do the leg work and speak to the various players and get some quotes and write up the various bits of text, but we'll need to come up with at least 3 really good incisive questions.

So, any takers? email me on diamondpigman@aol.com and we'll take it from there, probably meet up in a pub somewhere one evening and get the ball rolling, this is something we need on the shelves for the start of the new season ideally but definately in the run up to Christmas - Lee, you MUST be involved, its your idea mate and you need to get the credit for it (plus your not getting out of the work that easily ;) ) !!

Personally I'd like to see something on there dedicated to Dale as well, but I'm sure we could work that into the design.

Of course, if there is no R&DFC going into its 20th year then there will be no calendar, but we'll focus on the positive for now eh?

Billy Sharp just for the two games I remember that stick out. 2-1 down at home to Boston and the ref, he comes out with a second half hat-trick. Plus another goal that gives me goosebumps whenver I think of it.

IF there is no club then it will still be a great memento for supporters.

Thanks for volunteering though mate, I'll help whenevr I can but at the moment my work is a constant, I pretty much live in my cab nowadays.

This is a cracking idea, but needs some time and contacts to get rolling.
I really hope this can be achieved and provides more valuable cash for Diamonds.

I'd be interested in doing some of the 'contact finding' and interviewing, if you need me.

I put the 'Ask McElhatton' thread on a while ago and will be doing that interview later this year. I'd hope to be able to do a 'Where are they now?' section in next seasons programme if possible. I've also spoke to Justin Jackson, Alan Marriott and Andy Burgess and they are all willing to help me out.

If you were to get in touch with a printing company eg lockwood lithographics
have a meeting explaining the project, provide them with the pictures and they can design it all for you.
There are varying prices ranging on size, quality, etc.
Could get some sponsorship to bring costs down.
