Summary of last Friday's Fans Meeting

Post by Olly »

Sorry if its already been posted

From http://www.saverdfc.com/blog/
A short summary of the first AFC Rushden & Diamonds Fans meeting is outlined below, further info including the full Q&A session will be emailed to all fans on the AFC mailing list.

• The fans present voted overwhelmingly with a show of hands that they were in favour of proceeding with a phoenix club, should RDFC cease to exist. The new club would be wholly owned and controlled by its supporters.

• Name of phoenix club
Diamond Supports Group outlined that ten possible names for the phoenix club had been reduced to a shortlist of three, after voting on the Diamonds Forum. The fans present voted overwhelmingly with a show of hands for the name AFC Rushden & Diamonds

• Diamond Supports Group summarised the investigations that had been carried out and the options, together with the pros and cons of each option. The fans present voted overwhelmingly with a show of hands in favour of aplying to enter a team in the Northants Senior Youth League in 2011/12 and build a Senior team for the start of the 12/13 Season.

• Steve Whitney, who has experience in setting up a Youth Team, explained that the Northants Senior Youth League plays a good level of football and having a team in this league would be a good basis for a senior team in 2012/13. He offered his support to the Group.

• Laurie Owen shared his experience of re-forming Wellingborough Town FC. He offered his support, including offering a ground share with Wellingborough Town. The important consideration with a ground share is that the ground is available to the team for two nights a week for playing matches and training.

• What happens next?
Nothing can be done until the position of the current Rushden & Diamonds FC is clarified, which will hopefully happen on 5 July 2011 at the FA hearing N.B. In the end this hearing did not take place.
A larger Steering Committee would need to be set up and in time a proper committee according to the rules of Supporters Direct. As many volunteers as possible would be needed to take the project forward.
Everyone present needs to spread the word in order to get as many people as possible to help and support.

• A question and answer session was then held.

• Thanks were expressed to:
Rushden & Diamonds Supporters Trust for continuing to support the RDFC Youth Team players;
Those who have worked on the project so far;
Those who have set up this meeting and paid for the hire of the hall;
The supporters for attending the meeting

• Meeting closed at 9pm
