Anyone been/going to a game....
Over these last few days?
Went to Solihull Moors V Corby today in what was a 2-1 win for the Steelmen. Solihull are managed by Marcus Bignot and his assistant is Roger Ashby. Corby signed a striker from Deeping Rangers (UCL Premier) in the week and he scored both their goals today.
Ground was one of the worst i've personally been to. Absolutely lashed it down for the entire game too, but the 40p tea/bovril and 20p for 5 psycho mice ( ;) ) made up for it.

I can imagine Solihull Moors game was no fun in the rain. I remember having a chat with Garry Hill there after going to one of their games shortly before we faced them in the cup (or was it the Trophy)?
I've been to a wide range of games this season - in fact I've seen a game at all levels from Premier down to UCL, and have seen plenty of dross - at all levels - the best have certainly been the cup games - especially ones at Arlesey, Hinckley and Totton. What has surprised me is the similarity in prices at the top 5 levels - it still seems amazing we justified the prices at Nene Park for Conference level football.

Were you at Hinckley v Tamworth? I felt lucky I escaped with my life after that one!Formic wrote:I can imagine Solihull Moors game was no fun in the rain. I remember having a chat with Garry Hill there after going to one of their games shortly before we faced them in the cup (or was it the Trophy)?

For myself, watched Stoke Gabriel 3-3 Totnes and Dartington, as Stoke fell further behind Liverton at the top end of the South West Peninsula Division One East, back from a goal behind twice in last ten minutes.
Big Throgmorton Cup tie v Penzance tomorrow if the game survives the rain, and then the quarter final draw in the club house with the likes of Plymouth Parkway available...

Which Arlesey cup game did you get to Formic? I went to Arlesey V Hampton & Richmond, during that insanely hot spell at the beginning of October. Finished 6-2 to Arlesey (if you didn't go. ;) )
I set myself a target of seeing a game every Saturday for the whole season. Have managed it so far, generally a mix of Northampton/St Neots/Corby although there have been the odd weekend (Arlesey game for example) where none of the three have been at home. Going to Daventry in a few weeks and hoping to take in Hinckley before the season is out after you mentioned their new ground in a thread a few months back.

I saw Hinckley knock Darlington out of the FA Cup, and Arlesey do the same to Thurrock (P*** T**** et al) - there were five goals in that game, and the previous game I saw at Arlesey ended 12-0 so I do quite well there.
Although I've been to several Premiership grounds this season (including the Britannia Stadium yesterday), the most impressive ground was the Ricoh - where I saw Coventry beat Bristol City. It has the same seating layout as at the new Wembley, with excellent views - it's just a shame its unlikely to be filled anytime soon - although it will make a great Olympics venue - although if they don't sort the parking / public transport out there will be plenty of complaints.

Saw Rushden & Higham beat Bugbrooke 2-1 this morning. It was dire!
R&H only won the game because the Bugbrooke 'keeper got injured in the first half and with no sub 'keeper they had to put an outfield player in goal. He looked like he was scared of the ball and dived out of the way of two second half headers, before Bubgrooke scrambled one back late on.

Watched an entertaining 1-1 between Thrapston and Cogenhoe. Flipping heck this league is physical!
Thrapston grabbed a deserved last minute winner after Korey Morgan was brought don in a similar way to his pen at Kiln park!
it's kind of strange where you have a player representing Cogenhoe at under 18 playing against them at first team!
Jordan Pendred was playing for Thrapston too.

The Weetabix League is back in action, weather permitting, this weekend.
You can see U7 and Under 8's at Irchester Rec on Saturday Morning, Under 9's & Under 10's at the OG's on Sunday morning, Under 11's at South End School on Sunday morning and Under 12's at Raunds Manor School on Sunday morning.
Entry is free and there are no prima donnas on show, at least not ON the pitch!
