What a wonderful season I have had.
looking back to the end of the last season of R&DFC, and the despair I felt at the fans forum, as the old club's fate was sealed and the thoughts that went through my head, at what had happened to OUR club, and how we had been robbed.
I remember talking to a few people at the end of that meeting, you know who you are 8-)
and thinking, "can we really start again, would the fans stick by a new club, would they support us?"
After the meeting at the Pemberton centre, I still had my doubts, but AFCR&D had been set in motion, and the ethos that was presented struck a chord with me "One fan, one vote, one community, one club"
After what we had suffered as fans at the old club, this was a breath of fresh air, and I wanted a part of it. meeting with like minded people only confirmed my thoughts that it was possible to organise a Phoenix club to provide a focal point for the community and the fans.
So, I volunteered to help, little knowing what I was letting myself in for 8-)
Today, I am extremely proud to be a member of AFC R&D, I am proud of all the volunteers, I am proud of the team we have been able to put out on the field, I am proud of the fans, I am proud of the board, I am proud of the back room staff, but most of all I am proud to call myself a FAN of AFCR&D. I tell my work colleagues about our club, I tell my customers about our club, I tell my family about our club, in fact every time I speak to anyone I tell them about our club.
On wednesday night, my heart nearly burst, seeing the lads give the performance of the season and rewarding the fans with a fantastic win in the cup final, to meet up with old friends I had made over many years of watching R&D, to smile and laugh and sing with them again, to feel part of a unique club.
So I would like to take this opportunity to thank you, for supporting AFCR&D and helping to keep my dreams alive.
No I have not been drinking 8-)
Thank you all.
One fan, one vote, one community, one club. 8-)
