The Diamonds u16's eventually succumbed to their first league defeat of the season against Desborough Town in horrendous conditions.
With four players dropping out at short notice through illness and injuries, things got off to a fantastic start with Diamonds taking the lead after only 3 minutes to keep up their mini tradition of scoring very early goals. Rhys Day was on hand to tap in from 6 yards after a cut back from Connor Hislop. In a game that was very hard for either team to control due to the conditions, it took a moment of controversy for Desborough to equalise mid-way through the first half. A cross from the right hand side was caught by Diamonds keeper Jayden Mann before being barged over by the Desborough striker. The referee decided to ignore this completely allowing Desborough to tap in from the dropped ball.
With the rain still hammering down, the second half was a very scrappy affair with missed place passes skidding all over the pitch. The feeling was that the next goal would win it, and unfortunately for the Diamonds, it came with around 10 mins to go. A poor goal kick from Jayden Mann fell straight to the Desborough striker to run back at him and lift it in to the back of the net.
So after 3 games the u16's sit in 3rd place having relinquished top spot but still in a good position to push for the title. A mention also needs to go out to Connor Hislop and Harry Underwood who stepped up to play for the Academy side yesterday against Cambridge United with a 6-2 win, Connor bagging himself a goal.
