Just a thought.....

I'm guessing the clubhouse doesn't have SKY SPORTS. I know the commercial cost of Sky Sports is quite high, which is why many pubs don't have it. However, as a charity would we be entitled to a reduced rate?

The reason I'm asking is that there are quite a few lunchtime KO's on a Saturday. This week it's Arsenal v Chelsea and if it were shown in the clubhouse I'm sure we'd get a few more people in their to watch it.

Is this something that has been looked into, or worth looking into? Or is it not a viable option due to cost? :(

Stamboy, we are not a registered charity, so don't qualify for any discount.
Also the licence is held by Wellingborough Town, so it would be they that would have to install it 8-)

Sky charges for commercial premises are very high and calculated on rateable value. A pub in Cambridge that I often visit has discontinued it's subscription since it was costing £18000 pa.

I realise Sky charges high prices for commerical places. My mistake was that I thought we were registered as a not-for-profit organisation is what I meant to say (not a charity), and as such wasn't sure if Sky exhobitant fees for commercial places were much more friendly for not-for-profit organisations.

I suppose a beam-back European satellite like that landlady in Portsmouth had is also out of the question then? ;)

AFC R&D are a Community Benefit Society, described as follows

Both have similar aims and objectives

There are many other options available rather than sky! But that's open to debate and some rather grey areas in European law.

Just looking at Rushden & Higham's website I noticed they have Sky Sports and ESPN. I wonder what the cost is? Is it the extortionate commercial charge :( or do they get a reduced rate I wonder? ;)

The social club is run by Wellingborought Town FC so I respectfully suggest that this is a matter for them to address. Personally, I am not interested in the range of beer on offer there so prefer to sup in Dale's Bar. ;)

Bit different as the bar is run as a business with a ful time bar manager open 7 days a week attracting drinkers from the surrounding housing estate it is in the middle of.

I suspected that was the case. Without bums on seats 7 days a week, the cost of having Sky Sports/ESPN is prohibitive to many establishments.
