Can someone explain it, as i have never heard of it before

From what I understand, if you want to talk to a non contract player about signing them you have to put a 7 day notice in for them, after 7 days you can talk to them and they can sign for you. This has to be completed within 28 days, if the player doesn't want to sign you cannot put another 7 day in for them for another 28 days.

The poor sods were Dave (our Secretary) and Ralph (our Chairman), who has had to read that and a hell of a lot more this week regarding contracts - we're very lucky to have these guys, there is far, far more to running a football club than many people realise

No i know there is loads, after all we are governed by the FA!! , you can see why lots of clubs have full time secretary.

At our level, (Community) we also have the 7 day rule, but because most of the secretaries know each other and we just want the lads to play football, we have a "gentlemen`s agreement " to exercise the right to waive the 7 day approach , which we do.
