As a build up to saturdays match I see Cambridge are doing a nice piece on their forum match thread about players who have played for both teams. As the underdogs this week I was trying to recall previous meetings were a Rushden side had triumphed against Cambridge in a similar situation. During Rushden Town's one season in the beazer premier in 1990/91 season they beat Cambridge home and away 4-1. Cambridge finished 3rd that year and Rushden were relegated due to the Hayden road ground despite finishing 14th. I also remember a league cup encounter where I am sure we lost 3-0 in the first leg away but won 4-0 in the return at Hayden road at a time when Cambridge were in the league above. I could be wrong but would love someone to confirm.

RDFC last played Cambridge City, apart from a pre-season friendly in 2000, in two league matches in season 1995-6 in the Southern League Premier winning the away match 2-0 and the return home match 2-1. Both matches are mentioned in Formic's excellent match preview. ;)

My earliest memory of Cambridge City is season 63/64 (I think) when City won the Southern League and United were runners up. At that time Hastings Utd had just been promoted and finished 6th.

It was the severe winter season, 1962-3, when City pipped the U's to the Premier Division title. There was large fixture back log and the pivotal fixture took place at Milton Road in early April when before a crowd of 11,574  City beat United 2-1 having also won at the Abbey Stadium 2-1. K*ttering Town and Weymouth had been early pace setters before both fading on the run-in. Hastings United were in the First Division that season, finishing 3rd and were promoted, playing City and the U's the following season that you mention.

Will be only the second Saturday game I've been able to attend this season, as I'm only working until 3pm, which will mean I'll be about 10 minutes late to the game.

That's dropped ever so slightly, I caught it at the start of the week at 5/1

The weather forecast looks decent for tomorrow, so let's hope for a good crowd for one of the biggest games we've played to date. I'd settle for a replay on Wednesday, but hope we might shade a 1-0 win with a late goal.
