Looking for a bit of help or advice, the problem is as follows:

My PC monitor keeps going into sleep mode occasionally, there is no set time scale for when it does this. For example last night i was on the PC for an hour and it didnt turn off once however today it has done it a couple of times in the space of an hour. The processer stays on but the monitor goes black and says that it is entering 'sleep mode'. Once it does this the only thing to do is to reset the processer and start again.

I have checked the power settings in control panel and that seems fine. Quite frankly its becoming a pain in the arse :evil:

Any ideas?

How old is the monitor? Does it get hot?

Flat Screen or Big Cathode Ray tube?

When did this start?

Are you using Windows? Which version?

If so, Control Panel + Admin tools + Check to see if there are any Errors that might point to the reason/

If it is recent, have you done any Windows update? If so, that might be the problem, and you may need to do a System Restore to before any update may have caused the changes

Sorry, I don't have a solution, but I think maybe I have the same problem.

I have a one year old HP Pavillion desktop, running Windows Vista.

It doesnt go to sleep if I'm using it ( moving the mouse or typing or listening to iPlayer) but if I stop using it for a while then it goes to sleep, and the only way to wake it back up is hold the power button in, to power it down, and then push the power button again. It then boots up and restores the previous windows session.

The monitor is approximately 5 years old- same age as the processer. We are using windows XP.
Thanks for the advice, i may get in touch with our local computer chap and get him to have a look at it as he has been quite helpful in the past.

Ill try and check the things which you have mentioned although i have zero patience when it comes to technical issues :lol:
