Understandable, but a big loss in terms of the wider club (imagine if Alfie had Ben's attitude and work rate!)
Sincerely hope we see Ben back the club, perhaps in an off the field role, at some point in the future.

I quite agree - I couldn't have put it better than that.
Not only has Ben conducted things in a professional manner throughout his time at the club, but he's also done that in the way he approached telling us of his departure - again setting an example that others might have been wise to follow.

Brilliant servant to the football club and a nice guy and gentleman. I hope to see him back at the club in a management role in the future.
Thanks Ben.

Ben is one of footballs genuine decent guys who I'm sure will make a name for himself off the field in years to come if he wishes to do so. I had the pleasure of playing In the same Sunday team as him for about 3 years and as well as scoring 50+ goals a season he was great off the pitch as well. It would be fantastic if he returns to the club in the future, definitely has all the attributes to be a top manager!!

Best of luck to Ben a true club man and a player who always gave 110% when called upon. And there is no doubt he put in a lot of work last season with the U21's and will be a big loss to the club.
But I for one am f*cking sick to death of people moaning about Alfie Taylor. The bloke scored 50 goals for the club, loved the club and just because he wasn't over joyed about being dropped and having to play U21's people seem to slate his effort and commitment.
He went out on loan to BPW banged in a hatful of goals and found his form again, which is what I gather was the whole reason he was dropped in the first place (lack of form).
He obviously wanted to play football at a more competitive level than our U21's which is understandable for a player of his ability, and proven goal scoring record. Put yourself in his shoes you've scored 20+ goals so far in a season including ones against Dover and Cambridge City and suddenly you're being told if you want a game you have to play U21's.Wouldn't you be a bit hacked off?
Interesting that when Russell Dunkley was out injured he came straight back into the starting XI sporting what can only be described as fairly noticable beer belly (I'm fully aware I own one as well before anyone pipes up btw). Was he not asked to go play in the U21's to get his fitness back up and find some form? I doubt it. One rule for one, one rule for another it would seem.
So please stop bemoaning "what if" or "if only" when it comes to Alfie Taylor! Instead look at what he did do for the club and how much he cared each time he pulled on a shirt.
Perhaps some people at the club should look at themselves and say "if only" we'd handled the situation a bit better with regards his exit from the club. I for one think he deserved a lot better than what he got and what he is getting from some people on this forum. Why wasn't he at the presentation evening for starters? Lots of questions about the whole situation I doubt we'll never get answers for.
Anyway a few decent signings have been made so it's onwards and upwards, promotion is a must next season I feel.
Back to the original topic, all the best to Ben at his next club, our loss is his new clubs HUGE gain!

End of an era with Ben leaving but what a fine player and representative of the club he was throughout his time here.
I thought his darting runs (especially when coming off the bench against tiring defences), speed of thought and constant awareness of the positioning of his team-mates was great to watch.
A man who truly epitomized everything that AFCRD stands for.

Gutted to see Ben leave top bloke to have around the club and a great character even if his dress sense wasn't the best (brown leather jacket at ashington).
I do agree with dowlo though that was a clear dig towards Alfie even by the most respected board member IMO which is sad. Alfie might of got upset when dropped or because he was playing with jake but along with ben and the likes of Sam and Sean and others they care about AFC R&D they have seen it evolve from day one. I think the club is hugely different to what it was at Ashington the togetherness of the players and fans made that weekend, that squad I could of walked up to any of them including Newman I would like to add and they'd all have time for you, now it just seems we're getting a group of old friends together who are here for the money not because we get decent crowds or because they love the club. I couldn't see the current crop all on a night out in Newcastle with the board and fans all together.
I understand things change and players move on but it is a risk but I can see the fans thinking this ageing team we've got has to gain promotion this season it's not quite shit or bust but it's close, I don't have faith in the older players sticking around for seasons to come if were still In the ucl. I'd love to be proved wrong and if we win the league by Easter and end up at wembley I'll apologise I do still have faith In the current board and peaksy but I feel with the decisions that have been made to keep everyone happy this team has to succeed this season.
