Thrapston Friendly....

...doesn't appear to be any real reason why the game was cancelled on the official website other than stating the start date of the U21's season being in September?? Would of got at least 150 odd down there on a Friday night, even with a 2nd string/trialist XI. Which to a club like Thrapston is all money in their pockets. Does someone wish to shed any more light on this? As even Chris Hope seems to think this is a poor showing and I find myself agreeing with him. I'm obviously a bit biased coming from Thrapston but still surely a club of our size (compared to others at UCL level) could find a squad of 15 players willing to play them? Poor show IMO

I agree, I've spoken to a couple of people involved with Thrapston and they are not at all happy about it. Apparently there was no genuine reason given and it also leaves them with a difficult job of arranging a pre season game next weekend. It says on the statement that we hope to arrange a pre season game in 2015 but I get the impression that they won't be very keen.

Maybe with us now possibly playing Bedford Town in FA Cup, we could cancel that friendly game and play Thrapston instead.
Incidentally does Bedford have two teams? as I see they are also drawn v Kings Langley in FA CUp.

Yeah they do. They play right next to each other - same sort of thing as Wellingborough Town and Wellingborough Whitworths. Bedford FC play at Step 6.

Come on someone must know the answer. What's the crack? Come on we're all friends here. We can be open with each other. Was looking forward to some Friday night football.

I suspect this was supposed to be an U21 game and seeing as Dean Thomas has stepped down as the manager may of had something to do with the decision.

When reading the OWS and noticing the date of the first match in September I wondered at the time if we had sufficient U21 players available for this friendly fixture? I guess all senior squad members will get the opportunity of some minutes the following day at Rushden & Higham.

Would think that`s about right Trek, lack of numbers from the Under 21`s, and due to holidays etc could be the same with the senior squad, I know the are some away at present. When 2 games were arranged within 24 hours it was always a possibility one may have to be dropped, and unlikely to ever be the Sat R&H one. The way the 21`s league was being talked about, maybe the original assumption was 16+ teams and starting mid Aug, not 8 with a mid Sept start. If we haven`t got enough players to do two in 2 days not a lot that can be done. Not sure we should still be playing Bedford now on 19th with a possible FA Cup game not far away, but if Thrapo have a game that day could not rearrange Fridays match as unfair on whoever they may be due to play. Sure if wanted by both parties something can be done next season.
