Have left come back and then left again wishes he had never left but would we be any better with him in the side??

It's nice that he's involved in some way with our 1000th game. He's a Diamonds legend in my eyes, and you can see that the club still means a lot to him - as does the interview he gave the blog (link). Hopefully he gets the reception he deserves from our fans tonight.

Burgess would provide special moments but then fade out and leave gaps to be exploited by the opposition so don't think he would have fitted in with the Work ethic that JEMS expects from the team as a whole.

Under JEMS the players have been molded into a team and unlike in the past we are not a team built around so called star individuals.

I'm not sure if he'd fit our current system, and who would leave out? Tbf to him, I've no problem with him going to Luton, it was his boyhood club and after it was clear that he was leaving there, Mansfield may have been the only route available from Luton.

Pity it didn't work out for him at Luton. Without doubt he was one of our best ever players who gave us some memorable moments. I hope that the rest of his career isn't an anti-climax.

I have a feeling (especially if we get promoted) that we could see him return in a coaching role at some point in the future. He's currently manager of a women's side in the 2nd division, so is racking up the relevant experience. Likewise I suspect he still has friends at the club (in high positions) so has all the right links.

I think he would have fitted in, we would have played something differently (probably 442 with him on the left).

At the back end of last season under JE he was really maturing as a leader, I imagine he would have remained captain had he not left.

We have no idea, however I'd always welcome him back (again), you can never have too many talented players in the squad.

Biggest mistake Burge ever made in his career was not taking his chance at Swansea.

I think Burge could have fit in a number of positions in the current system. He could play the same role as Tomlin - the wide forward type role, he could play the role in mifield that Porter plays next to Terry, with his passes pinging about to Tommo, Byrne, O'Connor etc making runs would be very effective.

I'd definately take him back if he would fit in the budget, but it would probably mean the end of the Nene Park careers for some of the lesser players on the midfield wage bill - Cousins and Pattison spring to mind. With him having chased his boyhood club, played elsewhere in a couple of spells, and still wishing to come back he would be a good player to have around the club. He's clearly interested in coaching as others have mentioned, so being here would be good for both parties in that respect as I think Justin & Stoney have a lot they could teach him there if they were willing.

Or kicking out at the Halifax player in the fianl game of the season, which meant he was suspended for the trip to the millenium!
