I'd give them a good kicking and make sure they didn't come back. Why should I work hard for my possessions when utter thugs of society think its acceptable to steal and fail to get dealt with by the law?

I am part of the OWL team (neighbourhood watch) and the INTEL we get to try to allay burglaries is outstanding...............However, getting a Poilce Officer to attend when INTEL is passed to them, is a little like finding ROCKING HORSE Droppings. Too busy, chasing speeders, insurance & Car tax crimes (which are all REVENUE streams).

Interesting that not one person has said they wouldn't attack a burglar regardless of circumstances. Funny then, that its illegal?

I voted yes I would.
I am not a violent person in the slightest, I'm 18, never been in a fight, and don't like confrontation at all. But if someone broke into my house, I would feel threatened for both my personal safety, and that my possesions would be stolen.
I think in the situation though my head would say, get a weapon of some sort, and try and get them while their not looking, which I'm sure could get me in big trouble. Obviously I wouldn't be intending to seriously injure them- or worse, just get them off my property with nothing to show for it. This may not be the wisest choice, but in the situation, I couldn't just sit tight and ring the police, or let them go.

According to the Police ONE has to be in fear of your life before you retaliate, and that fear must be the first part of any statement that you make. 99% of such cases are not taken any further or the person whose house it is gets off.
