Favourite/Best AFC R&D XI

Post by BartonRaz »

A few of us at the match last night were discussing what we thought was our best/favourite XI, made up of players from our first 7 and a half years. I reckon enough time has elapsed now to get one of these going on the forum as there was much debate over certain positions!

This list of players on here is a useful tool for it: http://www.afcdiamonds.com/201920-playe ... atch-stats

We did also work out a worst AFC R&D XI which was probably more fun but I'm not sure how that would go down on here! We worked on the basis that the player had to have played at least 10 games, which meant I couldn't tuck Neil King in behind Chris Dillon.

Here's my best XI with 7 subs and the captains armband on the absolute best/favourite. What's yours?

.....................Heath........................

Reynolds...Dolman (C)....Ashton.....Brown

Hoban.....Bunting.....Farrell.......Fairlamb

............Dunkley........Shariff...............

Subs:
Joe Merrill
Chris Hope
Brad Harris
Nathan Hicks
Joel Gyasi
Tom Lorraine
Alfie Taylor

Honorable mentions for Matt Gearing, Nic Evangelinos and Fazel Koriya. We've been spoilt with wide players! Scott Joseph also just missed out. No doubt i've missed a few!

Wouldn’t argue too much with that BR except that Adam Confue may have been one of my subs.

Hard to disagree but personally I'd try to find somewhere for Matt Gearing and Matt Finlay!

Agree mainly but I would put Hope in for Ashton. I know he was only here briefly and not in his prime but for what he did to increase our reputation and be an experienced leader early on I think did wonders for the club in the first year.

Pretty sure 4 of those didn't make 10 appearances - Bradshaw, Spriggs, Lobjoit and Lawless. 3, maybe 4 of the others are nailed on though. You've got my wingers, and my right back, although you're playing my right back out of position!

Could make a case for Quigley or Oulton (pre-injury) too in that role. I felt Farrell just nicked it, mainly for his goals and performances in the promotion season.

Central midfield and on the wings was a tough one to decide so I’ve gone with my instinct on some of the choices

Sorry I missed the bit that said 10 or more appearances (DOH!)

I purely put Wilkinson at LB to accommodate Bradshaw as well!
