More than a few similarities to the Newark FA Cup draw, and not just the location of the clubs. A club in a lower level on an upward curve, with excellent league form and a large fanbase. We've been here before!

Two former Diamonds playing for Ilkeston at the moment with links to both AFCR&D & RDFC. Ollie Brown-Hill is the more recent link, but former RDFC loanee James Reid (2009) is also there.
They say we've lost our money we're not famous anymore.....

That does look to be a tricky tie - especially given the Newark debacle, and the fact they have reached the 4th Qualifying Round of the FA Cup. I think both clubs have reformed in the 21 years since R&DFC faced them in the FA Cup - with the winners drawn to face Sheffield United by the time of the replay. I remember the original drawn game away at Ilkeston was a pretty poor game, but was memorable by the big stewarding / police presence - and we were told they were there to protect us, as their fans had a pretty fearsome reputation, second only to K*ttering in the non-league stakes at the time.

Their FA Cup game is to be televised at the weekend, which will help the scouting, and I believe they are managed by Martin Carruthers who we've seen a few times before, starting from when he managed Basford United.

I think starting when he played for Basford in our 1st season in the FA Vase, the round before the Ashington trip, a rather splendid tussle between Martin and Chris Hope which given he scored 2 goals Martin would claim he won, but we did win the game 5-3, so draw your own conclusions.

They lost their unbeaten record last night. Losing 1-4 to Newcastle. Probably had an eye, or two, on Saturdays FA Cup match.
