Really disappointed game was postponed, despite both teams current form it was a game I was looking forward to. I don't get to as many games as I would like so this week's double header was a bonus for me.
Hopefully by the time game is rearranged we have improved and maybe a couple more players signed or recovered and Quorn must be due a blip sometime.
Shame about the food bank collection, that's twice now I have had a bag of goods for them. At least they are non perishable.

Despite the postponement I did receive a number of food packages from those already in the ground. Thanks to those who contributed. I will run the collection again at the next Saturday home game.

Thought I'd put a bit of meat on the bones around Saturday and how things like this happen. What the Club did, the impact on us etc. Dazzler might be able to chime in with a fact check on some of these bits as I wasn't personally around on Saturday.
The Stadium Manager flagged to the Club Secretary at around 9am that a pitch inspection should be arranged as there were concerns about large areas of the pitch following heavy overnight rain on Friday night. These early inspections are carried out by local refs who we know.
An inspection was arranged for 10:30am although the inspecting referee didn't arrive until around 11:00am.
The inspecting referee who is an experienced official at this level deemed it fit to play, taking in to account I presume the state of the pitch at that point in time, plus the fact that there was no more rain forecast and that the pitch would only improve from that point. Game ON.
Prior to the match referee arriving I had received messages in a group chat with the first team management suggesting that the pitch was very heavy and compared similarly to the Wellingborough game in November. Shortly thereafter, the match referee arrived and deemed the surface not fit to play.
This is obviously an objective decision made by the match official. Some postponements like the frozen pitch postponements in recent weeks are cut and dried. Any ref would call them off. This one was more of 'some might play, some wouldn't'. The inspecting local official would but then it's not his responsibility if something goes Pete Tong. The match referee wouldn't. Game OFF.
Late postponements like this cause the Club a problem for various reasons so are best avoided. Food is obtained for hospitality (which is a league requirement) including some fresh food in Dale's Bar, stewards are paid, match officials are paid. Wasted volunteer hours, some paid fans already in the stadium, The total cost to the Club I would imagine around £350/£400. Food Barn were there which would have cost them money. The Main Bar was open so I would imagine R&H would have had to pay bar staff, although it sounds like some of our fans made a day of it and presumably helped them recover that cost.
Then there's the PR element and the fact we look a bit silly. Plus dealing with the frustrations/anger of opposition players/staff/supporters which may/may not have occured on Saturday but definitely occured when we postponed late against Coventry Sphinx in October, which again wasn't our fault.

Thanks for that info Alex. I’d add that the inspecting referee has to speak directly to the match referee when he does the inspection. The match referee in this case, clearly didn’t ask enough questions or wasn’t given enough information.
Should also add that ultimately the decision is always with the match referee regardless of whether or not it’s them that do the inspection.
It’s really tough because without referees there will be no games at all but the frustrations that situations like this bring are totally understandable though I do feel that some supporters, from both clubs, overstepped the mark with their comments on Saturday.
