Ilkeston Town
One of our opponents in the FA Cup run which included Sheff Utd, have gone bust.

They are in the Blue Square North, and are in the process of an appeal.

Re: Ilkeston Town
We actually played Ilkeston the season after we played Leeds; they were our second round opponents before we played Sheffield Utd.BartonRaz wrote:One of our opponents in the FA Cup run which included Leeds, have gone bust.

A sad day for lower league football, although it seems ridiculous that this should happen so early in the season.

Re: Ilkeston Town
I remember the replay, when Ilkeston brought a decent and loud following with them. I thought we were gunna get turned over that night, but we put in a great performance to win 3-0. Be a shame to see another club wound up! :(davealbon wrote:We actually played Ilkeston the season after we played Leeds; they were our second round opponents before we played Sheffield Utd.BartonRaz wrote:One of our opponents in the FA Cup run which included Leeds, have gone bust.

Re: Ilkeston Town
Oh yeah, so many glorious cup runs i'm getting them confused. ;).
In that replay, didn't Ilkeston hve a couple of players sent off? One of them for tripping into the ref accidentally? The funniest red card i've ever seen.

Re: Ilkeston Town
When they visited us they were managed by Keith Alexander who so sadly passed away a while back - didn't he get sent to the stands in that game. Sad that a football club can go to the wall for debts amounting to less thana Premiership footballer earns in a week eh?

I was at Derby Uni when this fixture was on and caught the bus over to Ilkeston to watch it. I remember some poor diamionds fan getting whacked in the face from a clearance.
I now live about 5 miles away from this place. never been back tho.

Re: Ilkeston Town
Keith Alexander did indeed get sent to the stands, for protesting (with good reason!) about the ludicrous red card shown to one of his players. The lad was running through the middle looking at the ball to his right, turned around to see the ref stood right in front of him, so put his hands out to prevent him from running face first into the ref. They both fell over, the ref got up and showed him a straight red!
I remember watching the highlights on MotD afterwards, and Linekar and Lawro saying how ridiculous it was.
