Re: York match thread
Is that our 4th red of the season? Stuart twice, Miller, Day. I think we have a bit of a discipline problem, and probably a nice fine on its way at the end of the season if we keep it up.
They say we've lost our money we're not famous anymore.....

I'd say we have a ref problem as well. Stuart's at K*ttering and Day's yesterday (can't comment on Stuart's at Barrow since I wasn't there) should not have happened.BartonRaz wrote:Is that our 4th red of the season? Re: York match thread
I disagree about the disciplinary problem. Miller's at the scum was justified, but I've seen tackles worse than both of his bookings that have gone unpunished. Stuart's at Barrow was a clumsy foul on Walker who was through on goal, rightly a red card as he denied an obvious goal scoring opportunity, but it was in no way a malicious of aggressive foul. Stuart's second was completely undeserved, his first booking was a perfectly good tackle and although his second was probably fair enough (although it did look worse than it was and he actually got a touch on the ball first), again I've seen worse challenges not penalised. Day's yesterday was an absolute disgrace, the ref was one of the most biased I can remember, looking for any opportunity to discipline our players, but not at all interested in producing a card when we were on the receiving end. The stats on the official site make interesting reading, we commited 13 fouls to York's 12, but we picked up four yellows and a red compared to no cards for them.BartonRaz wrote:Is that our 4th red of the season? Yesterday was just a really bad day at the office, and was one of those freak games that (hopefully) only occur once every few seasons. 4-0 may suggest a spanking, but 18 shots to their 15 and 9 corners to their 2 suggests otherwise. The defending for the first 3 goals was shocking and I think JE made a rare error today in not switching to a back 4 after the red card. Aside from those few stupid errors in the first half, I thought the back 3 actually played very well. The second half performance in general was superb and on another day we would have scored 4 ourselves. I still don't know how those efforts by O'Connor, Johnson and Faz didn't go in.
The most worrying thing for me, is that yesterday was the second game running where we have been very shaky at the back in the opening stages, even with 11 men. This is something we need to stamp out straight away.

First yellow wasn't even a free kick, unless He was expected to allow Mokofo to pass through him by osmosis.davealbon wrote:

I've not seen a replay of it, but my initial reaction was that Miller deliberately blocked him.wewantourdarbyback wrote:First yellow wasn't even a free kick, unless He was expected to allow Mokofo to pass through him by osmosis.davealbon wrote:

Ball was played through his legs and he tried to turn to follow it at which point Mokofo ran straight into him.davealbon wrote:I've not seen a replay of it, but my initial reaction was that Miller deliberately blocked him.wewantourdarbyback wrote:First yellow wasn't even a free kick, unless He was expected to allow Mokofo to pass through him by osmosis.davealbon wrote:

Cotty wrote:Yes, he was a fussy ref who made several poor decisions, and seemed determined to punish us for the abuse he was receiving. But what were we doing for that free kick? We put about 7 men in the wall and no one on the line. We then stood in bewildered amazement as their player decided to shoot. Diamonds got a free kick in a similar position late in the game and Faz - of all people, who used to be so deadly with a dead ball - hardly managed to disturb their wall at all. For their second goal we were admittedly stretched at the back with only three defenders but no-one bothered to tackle their winger, just as eveyone seemed to stand by politely to let their guy get through to lob Joe for number three. We were so bad today that even the old guy who sits near me constantly abusing Rene Howe was reduced to silence! Perhaps if our crowd had got behind the team instead of the infantile abuse of Rankine, the ref, K*ttering and Marcus Kelly, the team might have felt like responding in a more positive way. A match to forget.
