Dale, I feel honoured to have seen such a talented young man as yourself light up Nene Park time and time again.

Fan's favourite, England's number 1 and clearly one of the nice guys in the game, taken at such an early age. You were a hell of a talent, and are and always will be a club legend. We'll miss you, and we'll never forget you. Sleep Well mate. RIP.

Darlington fan here - was a great shock to hear last night that the outcome of your match being postponed was because Dale had passed away. I have a mate from the area that knows Dale so it brings it home even more i guess.

From reading this page its apparent that he was not only a good keeper but a thoroughly smashing bloke which makes it even harder to take i guess.

Obviously the reason for his death is not yet known, however if it is the worst news an he had taken his own life i think the most fitting thing that can come out of this, and the best tribute to Dale would be some kind of trust set up (i dont think one already exists) where footballers can seek help on personal matters, at times its a lonely business for professionals who may only train a few hours each day and have plenty of time to reflect on things and dig themselves into holes. People sometimes forget that these guys are human and have exactly the same problems of others. If anything positive can come from this it would be that something is set up in Dale's honour to stop this ever happening again.

RIP Dale.

Just a quick heads up as an aside, a mate of mine who is working for a news agency at the moment texted me to warn me that something in this story is about to go very big but he's not working on it so doesn't know what. I don't want to speculate on anything, it would be wrong, we just need to be prepared for whatever might happen.

The best way to commemorate Dale that I can see, and I'd be very up for a stand rename, is to beat the scum on the 3rd and remember how much he enjoyed those wins.

You could have 140 years of no achievement, or twenty years of glorious victories, you decide.

One Dale Roberts.

It just a shame this is to happen as its awful for the family.

Have a feeling I'm not the only one who has a bad feeling about what this could be, such a shame if it is what I'm thinking it is.

100% agree... like someone said already... this is a way that he will always be remembered, whereas retiring the shirt isn't necessarily the best way to commemorate someone.

Rest in Peace Dale.

I'm not going to post a link, to their sorry affair, but the sun are starting to publish stories about this, which are not very helpful at this time.

You're not the only one, with the horrible rumours about, I really hope that this 'something' doesn't come out.
