Send him out on loan. He gets regular football and a chance to prove himself that way.Dukes wrote:Agree with you 2ofD re Sam smith - but it seems a bit of a Catch 22 situation when he can only get experience by getting experience...

Re: we missed Rene today
Anybody else heard of Ross Hannah, has been scoring stacks of goals for Matlock Town (Unibond league?) the last 2 seasons and is only young, could be worth a punt, couldn't imagine he'd be too expensive either.Totally agree about Rene. He's simply not going to replaced either, unless Justin can unearth the next Charlie Austin.
23 years old Ross joined Matlock from neighbours Belper Town in the summer of 2008, where he had been the leading scorer. His career began as a junior at both Sheffield Wednesday and Sheffield United before he joined Stocksbridge in 2004. Then followed a move to Belper but he then joined Gainsborough Trinity for a short spell before returning to the Nailers. Despite injury, Ross had a great first season at Matlock ending up as top scorer and collecting the fans Player of the Year Award. Last season was even better as he swept the board at the club’s Presentation Evening winning the fans and players player awards plus the leading scorer trophy. He also won the UniBond Premier Division’s Golden Boot Award.

I've been saying we should take a chance on a young goalscorer, from the lower leagues for a few seasons now. If JE thinks Johnson can make the step up, then surely he can gamble on young forwardD14MNDS wrote:Anybody else heard of Ross Hannah, has been scoring stacks of goals for Matlock Town (Unibond league?) the last 2 seasons and is only young, could be worth a punt, couldn't imagine he'd be too expensive either.Totally agree about Rene. I play in the Norwich Sunday Friendly League, and have scored 3 goals this season, if that helps ;)TheIncognitoKid wrote:I've been saying we should take a chance on a young goalscorer, from the lower leagues for a few seasons now..

This guy is interesting, has been making quite name for himself this season in the FA cup, been scoring goals for fun.TheIncognitoKid wrote:I've been saying we should take a chance on a young goalscorer, from the lower leagues for a few seasons now. But I've only had 4 shots, and I am a right back, to be fair ;)

I remember him being at Barnet a few years back after leaving Arsenal, and not really doing a lot perhaps he has changed his tune after finding some confidence and could be worth a gamble. This guy is interesting, has been making quite name for himself this season in the FA cup, been scoring goals for fun.

Sean Marks at Braintree Town is another realistic target we could look at.
Re: we missed Rene today
James Walshaw at Guiseley sounds like he could do well at a higher level also.

Tbf JE has looked down the leagues. We brought in Keehan who had scored 19 goals last year (admittedly he hasn't been given an opportunity, but if I remember he didn't adjust to full time football as well as Johnson has) and had a look at Bradley Woods-Garness prior to that. It's trying to find one that could make the step up and is what we're looking for which is probably the problem.TheIncognitoKid wrote:I've been saying we should take a chance on a young goalscorer, from the lower leagues for a few seasons now.
