It's a forum of opinions, mine happens to be shared by a fair few of the people who have written on this thread, if you want a place to go where everyone is watching/writing through rose tinted glasses then go and have tea and biscuits with UttoDiamond.

If people didn't have their heads planted up the clubs arse (yes i know the club doesnt technically have an arse) then they'd see that this is a joke. I'm not saying WE called the game off, but WE have a responsibility to make sure the pitch is playable.

As for the 'living in the griggs era' stuff, it's a football pitch, what did they used to do? splash out an extra £50 a season for a top notch set of trowels? Do me a favour, it's not a park pitch.

If you want an example of what might happen if a game is played on a waterlogged pitch, I went to the only game that was on near me - and it finished Arlesey Town 12 Atherstone Town 0 - and I think the pitch ended up in a far worse state than Gateshead's must be. You could barely see one of the touchlines, and it had to be repainted at half-time.

I saw Arlesey earlier this season and they were dire. Zema Abbey is/was their Asst Manager.

He still is - and was in full charge for today's game - they would be happy with 12 goals, although it doesn't look like they'll catch Hitchin in their league. Ex Diamond David Perpetuini was at left back for them.

In a perfect world I'd say Ok, but this pitch sits in the bottom of a valley and there is a water table. Once it's high enough, the water will go nowhere so the pitch gets waterlogged. In the 40 years of watching at NP it always has suffered this problem, particularly along the South stand side (although it's been better since the pitch was levelled).

Was going to the game today, didn't find out it was off until we were halfway there! Not gonna help the backlog of fixtures from the Christmas period...

I would do you a favour and explain the difference between spending £50k a year compared with £5k on a football pitch at the end of every season, but I know it would be wasted because in some peoples eyes it's the clubs fault everytime they have a cold or have to go to Sixfields :? to watch there football!!
I think if you read any of my previous posts you would find I'm not always in support of the club, but on this occasion, given the conditions and referees decision, what else could they do ?

I think the main point is that if you roll the ball along the pitch and it keeps stopping/getting held up by the water before the game starts then it's a no go. And that was the case in quite a few areas across the pitch. In fact usually some of the corners are worst, but it seemed to be more across the whole pitch. Plus we know it takes quite a whole to drain and it was still raining steadily at 11am.

As others have said it's probably a combination of sustained rain for 12 hours, and also perhaps the fact the pitch hasn't had a full surface renovation for a while, so is perhaps more compacted than it should be, and the normal undersoil drainage probably blocked up with sand used etc...

Anyway I think Mal took some nice pics to show how wet it was this morning.

I went to Corby v Stalybridge Celtic, where Hopey scored a nice far post header, and they went 2-0 up at half time, only to not really turn up in the 2nd half and drew 2-2. Was a lot colder out than I was expecting as well...
